Can i approach makeup counters for prom makeup without making an appointment?

i thought i could do my own makeup for prom. but since experimenting, i realize i look like a clown in my own hands. so i decided i should find professional help, but its seems to late to make an appointment now and i dont know where to go for a makeover. can i just make a last minute appearance at any makeup counter in town and request for a makeover? Can i approach makeup counters for prom makeup without making an appointment?
Go to the MAC store or Macy's (they have a MAC counter). The girls charge $40 and it's worth it. MAC products are wonderful and they last long and PROM is the one time you want to look flawless. I know that if you go to the MAC counter without making an appointment, they will put make up on you if they know they are going to make a ';good'; sale, especially at this time of year. You can also try Sephora. And if all else fails, you should ask an adult that you think does good make up on themselves. Or take your time..lay out all your make up that you want to use and start slowly. The lighter the touch the better the outcome. Good Luck and Have fun on PROM.Can i approach makeup counters for prom makeup without making an appointment?
Go to the Body Shop - they do free make overs and their stuff is really nice. You may want to buy something small though for their trouble (like the lip gloss they put on you b/c you will need to re-apply it later anyway).
umm call 2 days in advanced or go to a mall, they will always feel happy to do it!!! hope i helped :)

gobble gobble

happy thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!

try mac!!!!!!!!!

they refuse say you will give a big tip!
u should just be able to go to the mall and hit up a counter and ask questions for help and adivice. most women would love to help. i'm sure some would love to smug u off but ignore them. they'd probably make u look like u came out the 80's anyway.... since ur doing prom keep it light and neutral

MAC makeup counters!?

do MAC makeup counters give a few free samples of eyeshadow pigments if you ask for them? i heard they do...

if they do, what do i say? am i just like ';can i have a couple eyeshadow pigments?'; like, im not sure what i do!

please hellllllpppppp!

THANKS!! : ) : )MAC makeup counters!?
I have gotten a few things (including pigments)! I usually strike up convo about what new products they have (so study up), talk about which products I have, and then (this is where the free samples comes in) which ones I am looking to add to my collection.

I have gotten free samples 2 times without buying anything, but I do try to buy something from my local Mac store!MAC makeup counters!?
I'm not sure, i've been wondering the same question.

I'llstick around and see the answer. If i hear any thing i'll let you know =]

Makeup counters at macy's?

Ok so how much would it cost to get makeup applyed by one of the ppl at the makeup counters at macy's?

I heard it's free and i also heard you have to buy $50+ worth of makeup...so if I go to m.a.c and just buy the prep+prime could I get my face done?Makeup counters at macy's?
I went to Macy's before my high school graduation and the women did it for free. I didn't have to buy any makeup after either. I guess it depends where you live though. Makeup counters at macy's?
WELL I GO ALL THE TIME FOR MAC APPLY.

IT MAY BE FREE;; DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE;, OR IF THERES SOME COME OF SPECIAL.

BUT USUALLY IT DEPENDS WUT U GET.. I GET A FULL FACE AND I PAY $35

...

AND I HAVE MOST OF THEIR MAKEUP SHADOWS..

BUT.. GO AHEAD TO A MACYS AND CHECK IT OUT
Usually Clinique and stuff will do it for free if its not for an event, but it is for an event you have to buy a certain amount of products.
Victoria's secret also does it but they may not do it in ur area. I live in NYC.
Call and ask...I don't get why people put questions like this on here, it's so simple for you to find out by calling.

Macy's makeup counters?

Do they do free make up or do you have to pay for it?Like just to get a consultation or whatever.Macy's makeup counters?
iis free !!Macy's makeup counters?
you never have to buy makeup for a consultation, however its considered polite to purchase at least one item that they used on you during your consultation. but you dont have to. i always say that im coming back later to get something.

  • How long does MAC makeup 'last' when you get it done at the Macy*s counter?

I have a wedding that starts at 3 p.m. but am getting my makeup at the Macy*s counter done at 12 p.m [After that I'm getting my hair done, then going straight to the wedding]. The wedding will probably last until 3 a.m. Basically, I need my makeup to last 15 hours! Will my makeup stay put for that long? I'm choosing MAC because I think it'll stay on the longest, will it?!

Also, how long does it take? I'm doing the whole 'flawless skin, smokey eye/doe eye with false lashes, nude lips' look. How long will that take? How long does MAC makeup 'last' when you get it done at the Macy*s counter?
MAC is good makeup ....I am not a fan of their foundations ...but love their eye products. I am not sure any makeup will stand up for 15 hours without at least some touch up ....powder, lips ..etc., I would suggest you tell them at the counter how long you need this to last and maybe they can offer some samples of things or apply a little bit heaveir product .....but I would take some things in a bag for touch ups for that length of time ..... I have heard that MAC has heavy foundations and causes alot of people breakouts but it is suppose to be great stage makeup and great for photographs ..If I were you talk to the ladies at the MAC counter ...they will know what you will need touched up ....

    Hope this was helpful ~~~

Good Luck ~~~How long does MAC makeup 'last' when you get it done at the Macy*s counter?
Thank you for your input. I didn't end up going to MAC...Lancome instead. But I did specify that I needed my makeup to last a while [turns out I totally miscalculated the hours I'd be needing it to stay on]...and they put a special foundation on me. I looked fab. the entire night! Report Abuse

i love mac, but its all i use. darker colors stay on longer OR you can ask them to use a primer which will help it stay SUPER long.. also buy some things to touch up with. thats what i do... you will have to touch up all makeup no matter what the brand. at least powder and lipstick, maybe a touch of eye shadow
ah to be honest , it just depends on whos doing your makeup.......some of em put layers of makeup on and others put a slim amount on, im guessing if you want it to last fifteen hours, youre gonna want someone who aint skimpy with the makeup...................maybe keep a powder er somethin in your bag for touchups
Make sure they put on foundation primer and eyeshadow primer before applying the real makeup. The primers help to keep your makeup last longer.
Nars is better than Mac. I'm not saying Mac sucks, I love Mac. But, Nars is better!!
Its not smart to get your makeup done before your hair.

Makeup ? I'm getting headshots. Is it cheaper 2 get makeup at the mall w/ help from counter lady or walgreens?

I'm a guy and I have bags and stuff under my eyes and i know my friend can photoshop them out, but he says i should get makeup b/c it'll be easier. I also looked at my first headshots from years ago and i just saw micro pimples on my forehead (which isn't good looking back on it) I haven't a clue about makeup (i'm a guy) but i know i want that powdery look. Suggestions? what's that jessica alba commercial where you can mix your own color? or is there a place where i can get tv makeup powder like the news people use i've seen some of the guys with that and it looks good. very 80s rock band like.

all help (not just one sentence pleassssee) greatly appreciated!!!!

oh and what will the counterlady do? i know they might help give you a makeup for free but i gotta get several takes in different days I can't just go back to them and do it over and over for free without buying. so if this is better than say walgreens then how much am i gonna pay??? roughly? $10 $5? ....Makeup ? I'm getting headshots. Is it cheaper 2 get makeup at the mall w/ help from counter lady or walgreens?
If you can't find this palette stuff and if you don't know how to apply the stuff, then go to lancome or Bobby Mac or Este Lauder and tell them you want some ideas on makeup. Watch them carefully, as they will give you a complete makeover. Tell them about your problem with the dark circles or bags, ask them what they have for this. As they put each item on your face, ask them what it is and what color it is and how much it is. After they have started, tell them what you are doing, tell them about the ';head shots';, they will be excited to be a part of this. Just buy one or two things. Have them make a list of what they used... sometimes they keep a chart of what they put on you for future reference. Tell them you will be back tomorrow. It really is worth it to buy good makeup, not the stuff from Walgreens. Your makeup will make a big difference and the Walgreen's lady can not help you as much as the counter person at the department store. Good make up in your business is important. Start now to invest in it. You are worth it. If you go back to them for 2 or 3 days in a row, you will be better prepared to do your own makeup... tell the girl this is your goal. Makeup ? I'm getting headshots. Is it cheaper 2 get makeup at the mall w/ help from counter lady or walgreens?
i say get it professionally done. you'll look and feel better. you'll now how to do it on those different days. Sure you might feel weird sitting there getting made over, but who cares? Buy, or figure out what she used, and see if you cant get it at Walgreens, target, walmart, etc. If you can't find it, go back and get it. Sure it'll be a little more expensive, but would you rather look cheap or professional? The less photoshop the better honey. :) Hope this helped some.
if your trying to go to a department store like jc pennys or anything of that sort your going to be paying ALOT more then 5-10 dollars. ur ranging anywhere from 20 and up foir the good stuff.

what the counter lady will do is help you find something close to ur skin tone and show u some ideas and do urmake up for u but like u said itll only last u the day.

so my advice to save you time and money

go to the department store and see what the lady says bout ur skin tone like what would be better like mouse cover up or powder or lquid. and then ask her to show you how to put it on and what ';color'; matches ur skin tone best

and then go to walgreens or something and then pick out the color she reccomended amd youll already know how to apply it

Are there Mac, Makeup Forever & Nars cosmetic counters/stores in Bangkok?

If there are, why are they? How to get there? I've never taken time to buy cosmetics in BKK. I want to go to those big stores where I can just test out the colours. Are there Mac, Makeup Forever %26amp; Nars cosmetic counters/stores in Bangkok?
Most department stores, like Central or MBK, have them. I'm not sure about forever and Nars but there's definitely MAC store every where. Find the one close to you. If you're close to the sky train, take it and get off at Siam there're tons of department stores and shops there.

Try this if you're close to Central Lat-phrao

At the cosmetic counter at Saks, how do they cln their makeup tools? do they? should i be worried? went rcntly

most places are required to use disposable applicators, and sharpen pencils every time they use them it helps to keep down germs. i don't think there are any cases of someone catching something from a place that applied their makeup. if someone had something obvious i think that the people would tell them no I can't work on you. I have always cleaned my brushes with witch hazel it cleans them well and does not dry out the bristles. At the cosmetic counter at Saks, how do they cln their makeup tools? do they? should i be worried? went rcntly
I would hope that they use disposable applicators. The next time you use the counter you might bring this up. It is appropriate to be concerned about this, especially with the increased awareness of contagion.

    Puerto Rico and makeup counters?

I am moving to Puerto Rico (the aguada/aguadilla area) and am an aspiring makeup artist. I would like to get a job at a makeup counter (you know, like in a mall). Do they have those nearby this area? Will they hire me (i'm 14)? 10 pts to best anwer. Thanks!Puerto Rico and makeup counters?
There is a mall in Aguadilla. I am not sure what dept stores it has, but u can check.

    Aguadilla Shopping Mall (75 stores)

    787-882-0014, 787-891-1570

    Rt 2 Km 126.5.

There are other malls in PR too that have JC Penny's %26amp; Sears, etc. that have makeup counter. I am mot sure if they will hire you yet but in a few yrs I am sure it won't be a problem. Also if u can't get a job at a dept store makeup counter yet, then try working at a makeup counter in a walgreens or something.. it is not the same b/c u dont get to apply makeup but atleast u will learn the products %26amp; it will look good on ur resume or even work at a beauty supply store. GOODLK!!Puerto Rico and makeup counters?
Welcome to PR, I wish you the best. You should study first, finish high school. There is a lot of ';Colegios'; that offers kind of what you are interested in. You will have to wait until you are 16 to get a job. That is only 2 years ahead, get ready, study as much as you can, obtain the best grades, and have confidence in yourself. You would be what you want to be, but remember, prepare yourself with studies, so you became the best on whatever you want. Don't hurry yourself to work, this is your time to prepare yourself for the future.
first you need to have 18 years old to work here in puerto rico. some places are 16. but every Jc Penny, Sears and Macys here in puerto rico have these conunter.
I don't know about Aguada or Aguadilla but Arecibo has a Big mall with Sears and JC Penney and they have greta Make up counters.

Do a search about Sears and JC Penney and look for the nearest one ,,,,

    Good Luck..
Well this is sort of a difficult thing to answer hon because I don't like dissapointing anyone. I'm not aware of any department stores in that area, however that does not mean there are none, I just could not find any. There may very well be some. There must be beauty salons and spas you could look into as well.

Here's the problem tho. It would be very difficult for you to find a job in PR, period. You have your age going against you, 14 might just be too young, legaly. Also, PR is going through some very difficult economic times right now and jobs are scarce. People with college degrees having to take jobs at fast food places. If you were to find a job opening, you'll be competing against people who likely have at the very least finished high school, possibly have a college education, can drive, have years of work experience and have no legal restrictions to be employed based on their age.

On the bright side, there is something you can do to further your dream. You can go to any of these places or beauty salons or spas and ask if they are willing to consider giving you an internship you can attend after school. You can gain precious experience and learn from people who are experts while at the same time you continue your education and by the time you finish high school you can decide if you love it enough to continue your education even further in the field to pursue your dream. Say you did that and graduated, you would already have job experience and an education to back you up and become a success.

    I wish you the best.
    sweety

    u are only 14.

    good luck though.
Not all malls/stores in PR has needs for a makeup artist, someone able to sale (talk well, good at math/money handling, good attitude) will do for most stores that carry make up merchandise.

Maybe big department stores like JC Penny, Sears, or Macy's would be interested in a makeup artist. Form Aguadilla maybe you will have to travel to the Mayaguez Mall. Maybe you will find more opportunities at a beauty saloon doing manicure and hair care.

If under 16 you will need your parents permission to get a job.

Getting makeup done at the clinique counter?

So i need a new foundation and i was thinking of getting one from clinique but im not sure if i'd like the one i was thinking of [the new superfit makeup] so i wanted to go to Macy's and have them try it on me before i buy it. So i was wondering if i need to make an appointment before i go? Or can i just get there and ask to put some one me? And also should i remove my makeup before i go? Or would they take it off or what. And while im there should i have them do eye makeup too since im there? Any advice or tips would be helpful :]

thank youGetting makeup done at the clinique counter?
Just walk in and say you are looking for foundation.

They will automatically test it on you! and they will take any makeup off so you can wear foundation. Yes you can wear eye make up. It isn't technically a make over. They are only going to test in a small portion of your face.Getting makeup done at the clinique counter?
You don't need an appointment. Tell them you need a new foundation and they will help you find one.
    OMG...

I just did that two days ago and end up buying more!!

I just walked into Macys and the MA was glad to help me. I have the Superfit as well in Golden Beige and I love it.It is EXACTLY my skin tone. I use to use MAC and I will never use MAC foundations again!! I ended up also buying a concealer, and the sheer matte pressed powder!! Clinique makeup is very light and does not feel heavy at all!! Its better if you go without makeup but if you need to where some, they will give you something to take it off with. They will be more than welcome to do your eye makeup, believe me!!

I suggest asking for a sample first so you can test it out on your own and if you like come back and get it. But I loved it so I just bought it. There high impact mascara is really good too1

Best time to visit makeup counters at department stores?

When there are some other people there. But just a few peopleBest time to visit makeup counters at department stores?
I advise u 2 go early preferbaly when its only bin open half and hour as no one else will be in the shop n none of the make up will have bin used yet!Best time to visit makeup counters at department stores?
Try at about 10 or 11... it's not too early, but it's early enough that the sales people won't be like ';oh god, it's another one';. Also try to be nice to them so they will give you (relatively) honest advice and the good makeup.
what? you have to set appointments there now?
Early on in the day, and during the week. You may also be able to set an actual appointment with some of them.
When you have plenty of time to have your questions answered and to try new things.
Maybe around 11am? Just go when you see a lot of salespeople around there.
    early when the store opens

Is it just me or do you think girls at the MAC counter wear too much makeup?

In my opinion I think maybe 25 percent of the mac girls look good with it, but 75 percent of the mac girls just look like they have too much makeup on. One girl ..I looked at her eyebrows up close and the tail part of her eyebrows was gone..and she painted her eyebrows thicker then they were lol..I thought how phoney. .My natural eyebrows look better up close then hers. Just seems they wear so much eyeliner and too much eyeshadow ...so dark n heavy looking. It looks like they take an hour putting on their makeup everyday. Anybody agree or disagree. Is it just me or do you think girls at the MAC counter wear too much makeup?
Well, I guess it's appropriate for where she works. Is it just me or do you think girls at the MAC counter wear too much makeup?
    I disagree. It's a personal choice.

They're doing it to themselves, That's how they want to look.

Not to mention, it is their JOB!

Who are you to criticize them, anyway?

And comparing yourself to them? That's just ridiculous!

Not to mention, would you go around with no eyebrows? I doubt it. She has to do something doesn't she?

Makeup is fun and transforming, so what if they want to try out new looks everyday. It's on them anyway, what do you really care?

Are you actually going to go up to them and say any of this? Didn't think so. I suggest you quit talking bad about people you don't even know and take a closer look in the mirror.
like others have said, they are there to sell the makeup and show off their skill as a makeup artist, which is why they usually go over the top with what they wear. While it sometimes does look a bit silly it's part of the job.
those girls may have to much makeup on, but they are selling their products.

its spossed to make girls think that they can look like that too.

it takes alot of talent to make your makeup look like that.
yeah, i agree. i heard that is part of the job description though. they have to advertise their products, no matter how silly it looks.
i agree. it looks like they took every shade of cosmetic they have and somehow applied it to their face

zombie- MAC as in the makeup....
My bet is they are trying to sell the makeup, so they advertise it as much as possible.
They are supposed to. They put their makeup on to the extreme to show their skill and the product
They gotta do what they gotta do! lol =]

    It does look silly!
omGG..Didto.....Yeah they were so much..that is kind of is disturbing.....haha..but yeah they do wear waaayyy ...to much makeup....=)
Oh my gawsh! totally babe. Like what is the dealio?

Getting makeup done at the clinique counter?

I booked an appointment at clinique for the free product test... I booked it on prom day so i dont have to get it professionally done for prom..

DID ANY OF YOU GO TO ONE OF THESE?

DO THEY ACTUALLY PUT FULL MAKEUP ON YOUR WHOLE FACE ?? OR JUST HALF ??BECAUSE IM GOING TO PROM AFTER AND I DONT WANT TO LOOK WEIRD.

LIKE: FOUNDATION, POWDER, BLUSH, EYESHADOW??Getting makeup done at the clinique counter?
Yeah they would do it. Some would try to do half of your face and ask you to do the other half, but if you refuse, they'll just do your whole face. They work on commission after all, and want to please you. They may ask you to buy a lip gloss they used on you or an eyeliner. It depends from counter to counter. One of the times I went to a clinique makeup counter requesting a makeover, the woman said I will have to buy everything from foundation to eyeshadow save the 3-step...I just said I am not interested and walked away.Getting makeup done at the clinique counter?
I got my prom makeup done at a Clinique counter in Carson Pierre Scott. Yes, they do everything! They cleaned my face, applied moisturizer, applied foundation, powder, blush, everything. I even took a picture of my dress so that they could match the eyeshadow and they also apply eyeliner along with mascara (they ask you first though). I also got some free samples, holler!
Rest assured, they WILL NOT only do half your face. I don't know where that myth arose from, maybe that's how it was done in the 80's, but they do your entire face, whatever you want done. Be specific in your requests. And please buy something afterwards, those women work on commission. If you wouldn't walk into a salon and try to get a free haircut, then don't walk in there and try to get a ';free'; makeover.
yeah they'll do anything you ask for

but i would do that if i were you on the DAY OF

Do MAC makeup counters do make-up by appointments?

If so, how much do they cost?Do MAC makeup counters do make-up by appointments?
I got my makeup done by MAC for an event very recently. And yes, I made an appointment for it in advance. At my local MAC counter, you have to make a five item purchace in order for them to do your make-up. The products you buy is the only thing you pay for, and actual makeover comes free with it.

Got to your MAC counter and find out whether you have to buy something or just pay for the makeover. I'm sure it's different in different places.Do MAC makeup counters do make-up by appointments?
Just walk in, plan to buy $40 worth of product and let them do a makeover.
I'm not sure, but get an appointment with a gay guy. They're the best at makeup.
Yes they do, and in Canada it costs 45 dollars. So, in the U.S, i'm guessing about 35-40. You also usually get a free full sized product(I got free mascara)
Yeah they do. Not sure how much they cost.

You could either just ask for them to do a make-over and test products on you and then maybe buy a few of the products they used. Alternativly i think you can book in for a professional make-over.

Check thier website, they might have some info x

I have gotten my makeup done at MAC many times!! I LOVED IT every time! But it you have to buy $75 worth of mac products so maybe you should wait until a high school prom or wedding or a different special time. But if you do decide to do it just tell who ever is doing your

make-up what your dress looks like or bring a picture of a celebrity's make-up you like. They will know what to do and you will look LOVELY!! Well I hope this helps and enjoy your 8th grade prom!!!!Has anyone ever done their makeup at macy's (in mac counter)?
I had mine done at Belk and I ended up looking like my grandmother; hideously ugly blue eyeshadow and lots of bright pink lipstick.

Best of luck to you though.

*I'd like to mention that the lady that did my makeup was a sixty year old black woman.
Quite honestly I'd save your money and just do your makeup yourself. You're only in 8th grade? If you go to the MAC counter they're going to put so much makeup on you, you'll look ridiculous.
    im a professional makeup artist

Do i have to pay to get my makeup done at a M.A.C counter or pay a tip??

if you buy $30.00 worth of M.A.C makeup then you get a free makeover. I asked the lady that same question at the M.A.C. counter, and that is what she told me. if you DO NOT buy at least $30.00 of M.A.C makeup then YES you DO have to pay. Even if you do not have to tip them.... i would suggest that you do because it would be rude if you didn't. I hope this helped =)Do i have to pay to get my makeup done at a M.A.C counter or pay a tip??
i had to pay. i just learned how to properly use makeup, i bought over $50 of M.A.C. cosmetics.Do i have to pay to get my makeup done at a M.A.C counter or pay a tip??
Usually you have to buy some products. For Belks you have to buy two products from the counter you get it done at. Just call them and see what they say.
no and NO there paid already not on commission so ask for a free one, no tipping needed
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT M.A.C. IS BUT ALWAYS LEAVE A TIP. YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED AND GET V.I.P. TREATMENT.
If you buy product (I dont know what country you're in...) they will usually do your make up for you.

If it's just a consultation, dont expect them to do full face makeup.

If I can remember... I had to buy two products, then they did my makeup.

So realistically, you don't have to pay anything, as long as you buy the products.
back when i went to prom it was 35 dollars i think or 35 worth of product. something like that!
#1 the only mac artists that make commission work at Nordstrom's, the rest work on an hourly rate.

#2 It depends if you go to a free-standing MAC store or a department store. Free-standing MAC stores charge a fee for applications-$50 for an application and $90 for a lesson. Department stores will sometimes charge a minimum purchase, so you will have to commit to buy some products to get your makeup done. In a free-standing store you get your makeup done in a back room and the artist gives you 100% of their attention. At department stores the artist will have to step away and help other customers. That is the difference in price! No tip required. They are not a salon, they sell makeup so the best tip is always to buy:)

Does macys makeup counters give away samples?

every company/counter is different at macys/nordstroms. some are more generous, some are super stingy, so you might not get a good sampling of the different brands.

Sephora has all the same brands but they give away samples like its nothing!Does macys makeup counters give away samples?
I agree, not always..but sometimes. Sephora however will be glad to give u samples. They have some brands that macys carries..so check it out :) Hope this helps!Does macys makeup counters give away samples?

    Makeup done at MAC counter??

so i'm planning on going to the mac counter and buying at least a 100 dollars worth of products and i heard that you get a free makeover with the purchase of 40 dollars worth of products or something like that.

i was just wondering what happens when you get your makeup done there(sorry if that sounds stupid, i've never had my makeup done at a counter before lol).

should i wear no makeup that day?

or do they give you a cleanser to take your makeup off or what?

do they use the products that you buy or do they demonstrate them on you first to try and sell them to you?

thank you so much for any answers!:)Makeup done at MAC counter??
At the mac near me, that deal isnt all the time..only during special seasons (prom, wedding) usually you have to pay 50 dollars and they give you a free mascara. to get ur makeup done but, thats just at my local mac. and when you get your full face done, you make an appointment and they will tell you to come with a clean face..they will do everything else..Moisturize, concealer, foundation, blush, eyeshadow whatever you'd like. If you dont make an appointment and you just want to buy stuff they will probably only show you how to apply it like a sample..they wont do your whole face. hope that helpedMakeup done at MAC counter??
There shouldn't be a minimum purchase for good service! Just call ahead and say your looking for a ';new look.'; They should set up a time slot and have you come in! It's best if you don't wear make up, but if you do they will be able to remove it. Also, they have samples of just about every item available so no, you don't have to buy to try... just buy what you like!

Why do women on cosmetics counters wear so much makeup?

Surely makeup should be subtle and natural, but most of the time these women wear a mask of over-the-top makeup. It doesn't inspire me to buy anything! Why do women on cosmetics counters wear so much makeup?
not everyone can be a natural beauty... I never wear natural looking makeup always dramatic... it's who I am... besides why bother with make up if you want to be natural?... I think the answer is, make up is used to enhance who you are and how you want to be seen

if you shop at MAC or Sephora pay attention to the clerks... they have something for everyone and people tend to gravitate to people with similar senses of style... I personally do not ask for beauty advice from anyone who draws on their eyebrows (unless it's a guy in drag) or who wears natural make up... they don't share my aestheticWhy do women on cosmetics counters wear so much makeup?
Just showing customers the possibilities one can do with make up.
Hi Shona - I suppose it takes quite a lot of make up to cover a patronising person with a big ego. I never buy make up from those counters, I'd rather help myself from the shelf. Glad I'm not the only one who has such nasty thoughts. Hahaha.
they have to look like a good advert for their business if someone who was pale, spotty, and looked like they hadnt slept for a week was behind the counter psychologically customers would start to think that the make up was crap so the person wasnt wearing it and therefore not buy it themselves!

    f
because they have no self cofidance and are stupid enough to believe it disguises them =P
Well thats because... there have to show off the products there selling..
yeah and why do they always grab ur wives and girl friends and say sorry madam but i could help but notice....if i was a woman i would have punch one for says i had open poors...what ever that means...they all look like expolision in a pint factory...wash it off and start again....';less is more';..lol
    I agree with that too.
loads of make up is scary, i recently had an 8 month relationship with someone who used a lot of makeup and was stunningly attractive. I fell in love with that person. Then I saw her for the first time with no makeup and it was a horror story. She looked so different, from a 10 to a 1. In the end it disturbed me so much I had to end the relationship. From now on I will only date women that are attractive without make up
They have to cover up their flaws and 'advertise' their make-up on their faces as well.Anyway.it's free to use the makeup for them, might as well use more, right? :p
Im same has you do not like alot of make up.They look like dolls.Have no idea why they slap so much on.
i have always wondered this too. they look a bit like tangerines gone wrong lol. think its cos they are in the makeup all day and so try out bits all the time
They get free samples. I agree with you about the mask effect. Don't like it all. They are often old biddies trying to look young
    of course

2 be more beautiful than the women who will buy a makeup from her ..right?!!!!
    Advertising
because we like to look plastic !
will you buy cosmetics from a women who don't wear makeup?
The actual reason is that each company tells its make-up girls that they have to wear a certain amount of their products a day. For example a friend who used to work for Clinique was told she had to wear a minimum of 10 Clinique products to work each day. This could inlude Clinique skin care and perfume but had to also be mainly made up of make up products.

So, to be told that you have to wear at least 10 products, you can probably understand why some of these make up girls end up looking like Coco the Clown
Because most of them are ugly mooses and need to cover up.
Its probably because of the lights, it makes them think they need more as the light 'bleaches the colour out of your face' so rumour has it, so they apply lots - a bit like stage makeup. They could just be advertising their products but I guess you dont really need to see all of them at once!
to fend off bitchy customers..eheh..or maybe they hate their employers for a low pay and to get even with them they wear so much make-up that buyers would fear on using the products on them
    Sorry
Don't ever go to one for a make over. You've been tangoed!!
they want to show off the product they are trying to sell however some end up putting on the WHOLE range!

    Makeup counters at department stores?

    Is it free?

Is it unsanitary since everyone uses the same makeup or is it clean somehow?

Whats your experince with it?Makeup counters at department stores?
Most of the time it is free, just ask.

It should be sanitary because the usually use disposable applicators and once they touch the makeup then touch your face they are supposed to get a new applicator.

I would'nt let them use eyeliner or mascara unless they use disposable applicators that is the only really unsanitary thing, you can get pink eye or other infections.Makeup counters at department stores?
oh no! 6 people getting sick a year from make-up counters? did you know that you can get sick from *gasp* being near other people?

yes, if you are careful and you go to an actual department store or sephora or something, then you have a .00001% chance of getting sick.
It is free, I usually have my face done at Macy*s, JCPenney, or the like and they do hope you'll buy something but you don't have to (because they make commission). When they use products like lipsticks, stick foundations, etc. they wipe it off before and after each use, so they try to keep as sanitary as possible. They also use cotton balls, disposable sponges and q-tips instead of brushes in most cases.
The stuff they have out on the counters is free for you to try on. They are supposed to have q-tips, cotton pads, disposable mascara brushes, etc. for you to try the items on with. I live at the Benefit counter, and the girls there are always extremely sanitary with the makeup that is out.
It is safe if you go to a reputable store like Nordstroms or something.
I think it is free but they expect you to buy something if they put make up on you. they use different disposable applicators on each person at least what i have seen them do. Also I have seen the people spray the make up with i am guessing soapy water maybe. But if you tell them you just want to try a new look usually they won't expect you to buy something. i just wouldn't ask them to try it all the time.
The following is a widespread occurrence; reported in the news at least 1/2 dozen times each year.

    This IS the best answer
    http://www.in-brands.com/Simplified/Prod鈥?/a>
I know that some places will give you a free makeover if you purchase a certain cost worth of cosmetics from them, while other places will just do it free.

And it can be unsanitary, but almost all places will make sure its not. They disinfect the brushes, which is fine.

I went with my friend once and 1. the lady was a little rude 2. she had to purchase 50.00 worth of cosmetics in order to get her makeup done and 3. the end job was fine, but we were there for almost 45 minutes because the lady kept moving her attention elsewhere, and no , it wasn't busy.

If you are interested in a new look, go for it.

They can really make your face pop!

Getting makeup done at Nars counter- how much tip for artist is appropriate?

i live near NYCGetting makeup done at Nars counter- how much tip for artist is appropriate?
Depends on how much the makeover is...I would stick to 15-20% of the total cost. If its free, then I would tip $10-15. You don't have to tip, but if the makeover is free, then the expectation is that you puchase at least one makeup item.Getting makeup done at Nars counter- how much tip for artist is appropriate?
NO!!! YOU DON'T TIP THEM!!! you buy them makeup... the sale goes for them... and it's probably commission or i don't know... but DON'T TIP THEM!!! you are buying makeup... gosh i don't know how much i can stress this to you... i'm not being rude/cheap... but you don't tip the people...
You shouldn't be tipping the makeup artist, they are already making $14 an hour! If they do your whole face, it's customary that you're not just doing it to buy a lip liner. You should plan to BUY a couple things three at least. Even if they charge a fee for a makeover, Don't tip them! They get commision, I don't care if it's NYC, everyone wants a friggin tip these days. If they are collecting tips, alert management because it just wrong
Depends on how many products you buy from all the makeup she uses on you. If you only buy the lip gloss give her ten bucks. If you buy the foundation with the concealer, liquid eyeliner, and bronzer then tip her more.

Do the makeup artists at the mac counters in the mall do prom makeup for free?

    or do they charge?

and if they do how much is the average rate?Do the makeup artists at the mac counters in the mall do prom makeup for free?
You have to call in advance and reserve your appointment. They charge $50, but you get that back in products that you choose. You also should bring cash to tip the artist for their time, as they don't make commission off their sales.Do the makeup artists at the mac counters in the mall do prom makeup for free?
I think it is around $40 - 60 and it is redeemable in product. So you can get your lipstick and stuff for touch ups.
I dont think so but they do a really good job... its worth it youll look prettyful!!!!!!!! they charge like 100 but they really know how 2 do your makeup with face structure... thats what they study 4 lol!!!! the average rate is like 60-100 good price!!!!

This one time they did barbie loves mac I absolutely LOVE IT (It was green and pink and purple-120 lashes and everything thats my favorit so far JUST LOVED IT!!!!)
Hmmm....well I know that if you just go to the mall, they'll try a bunch of makeup on you for free, cuz then you end up buying the products. But I'm not sure about prom makeup...you'll probably have to pay. About $100? Not sure though...
Nope they charge like $40.00 or something like that..
I never heard of Mac I know that there is a Merrill Norman .I don't know if they charge! But your better off putting make up on your self! Models like me knows how to do it your self! Which makeup counters in Macy's do makeup for free?

Are there any that do free makeup? Or with a small purchase?

Thank you!Which makeup counters in Macy's do makeup for free?
Almost all of them MAC used to do it for free but now you have to buy $50 or more in products to do your whole makeup. I think they can only do an eyeshadow demo for free. But Benefit, Shiseido, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Chanel and all those counter do them for free in you sorta seem interested in the products. Like if you ask them if they can use a certain product on you they'll do it just to convince you to buy something. I always get something anyways because I like the products. MAC will apply a certain product as well if you don't know how to use it or if you don't know how it will look. Like lipstick or foundation or blush.Which makeup counters in Macy's do makeup for free?
clinique, estee lauder, and lancome for sure do free makeovers. it is polite though, to buy one thing they used on you. MAC does makeovers, but you have to spend a minimum amount. i forget.
Everyone does free makeup but I personally like Lamcome and especially Mac they do such a good job and both give you free samples of foundsation to try at home before you buy it.
I work for Clinique and we prefer that you buy 2 products. People usually want to buy more and it has a pretty low price point.
Most of them do the makeover for free with at least a $50 purchase
im pretty sure all of them.

How long does makeup last? walgreens vs. the counter?

.How long does makeup last? walgreens vs. the counter?
Mascara needs to be replaced every 3 months, (2 for the thicker kinds) because bacteria will build up. I have so many different shades of lipstick and gloss and eye shadow that I actually never use them up! But, it really depends on how often you use them. They are good for 1-2 years. My skin care (Mary Kay) lasts me for 4 months so it is totally worth it! How long does makeup last? walgreens vs. the counter?
    hmm,

i don't buy any makeup what so ever from Walgreen's.

i can't wear makeup that will break out my skin.

Merle Norman [the actual makeup store..they give free makeovers to help you get started using makeup]

and MAC [there are booths set up in stores such as Belk, where they chose the best makeup for your skin tone %26amp;get you started]

are some of the best makeups around.

theirs honestly lasts all day until you wash it off.

%26amp;i have tried alot of makeup that lasts only half a day,

    so i'm speaking from experience.

Whats the BEST kind of makeup u can buy (over the counter)?

I love MAC and Benefit. In my opinion, they can't be beat. You can get MAC at MAC stores and Macys (Bloomindales), and you can get Benefit at Macy's and Sephora.Whats the BEST kind of makeup u can buy (over the counter)?
I LOVE Max Factor! It is wonderful in liquid makeup, powder, blush, eye liner and mascarra!Whats the BEST kind of makeup u can buy (over the counter)?
bare minerals by bare essentials..you can get it at Ulta
    maybeline or watever
i would say cover girl has good foundations and rimmel has good eye shadows and maybelline has good mascara
By ';over the counter'; I assume you mean drugstore brands?

I think L'Oreal is very good- it is made by the same company as Lancome. The mascaras in particular are excellent! Since you should replace your mascara every 3 months for hygienic reasons, it's good to go with a drugstore brand anyway. I would go with L'Oreal for best overall line, in my opinion.

I have used Neutrogena blush, and like it very much. Sonia Kashuk (only available at Target) is also known to be quite good.

My favorite department store makeup is Bobbi Brown, but that is because that line has a shade of foundation that matches my skin perfectly. It was trial and error before I found that. I have also used Bare Escentuals, and it is okay, but I am not sure if I like it better than Bobbi Brown.
    covergirl works pretty good
MAC, not a big make-up fan, but when i do where it this is all i get.
I have 5 years experience in cosmetics, the best foundation to closely match your own skin tone and look fabulous is Lancome, their blushes and eye shadows are the ultimate in color, Estee Lauder is a close second, their foundations seem to work best with dry skin, Clairins is good also. If you are looking at some brands in a drugstore Max Factor is good, remember do not get a foundation with more color than your own skin, after several hours the makeup mixes with the oils in your skin and darkens somewhat. Just remember that what ever you buy always apply with a damp sponge , this gives you a more natural finish. Just to let you know, any Loreal products are what did not make first cut for Lancome, they are both the same company as with Elizabeth Arden what does not make the first cut is marketed as Ponds, by the way the best Mascara to buy is Max Factor 2000 calore mascars.
i love bare minerals. loreal is good too. the true match foundation.
I love bare minerals and bare essentials. I used to never wear makeup because they made my face real shiny, but I have been using bare minerals for a year now, and I love it! It covers up all my blemishes, and stays on all day! The makeup can be pricey though, but a starter kit runs about $75 and it comes with foundation, concealer, blush, and brushes.

  • Do you have to pay when you want to get you makeup done at mac counter ?

    It depends.

The Mac stores will charge you a makeover fee and it's customary to make a purchase.

Some department stores will require that you purchase a $40 gift card to confirm your makeover appointment. You can then opt to spend the gift card on cosmetic purchase or not.

l'm not sure if it does, but i would call ahead of time just to make sure it doesn't. If it does, make an appointment at Sephora if you have one where you live, because it's free and the staff are amazing, plus there are more brands to choose from. =]I'm getting my makeup done at a Mac counter....?
If you've got an appointment that means you do have to pay for it. My friend got hers done from them for prom, and it was about $40 (canadian). However if you're in the store and you walk up to them, for those ';in-store'; makeover things, they are usually free. From what I've seen from others who have gotten it done there, its really nothing special, you can probably do something similar yourself, or ask someone you know. However if you part of the wedding party, it might be a good investment to get it done professionally.
It doesn't cost anything to get a make-over, BUT you do have to buy something.. that is the reason they won't charge you for the make-up application.
they do the makeup for free but you have to buy $50 worth of makeup when you have your makeover
i dont think so. because like what if they do your makeup and it turns out not how you wanted it to?

Which makeup counters are the best for these things?

I've done a bunch of research and asked a couple questions regarding this issue. I just don't want to walk out of Macy's looking like a fool and wasting my time. I've been getting mixed answers when it comes to which brand doing the best makeup. Many say MAC, while others scare me and heavily disagree saying I'll come out looking caked on with makeup.

The look I'm going for is a Jennifer Lopez 'glowey' skin that is flawless [I have some acne scaring here and there from my teen years]...by July I'll be nice and tan..

Then for my eyes I'd really like a smokey eye that's brown and dramatic; I was also thinking eyelashes or something to give me a doe eyed but hot look. Then some nice eyebrow definition.

And lastly, a flesh toned lip.

If I have to, I'll go around to different counters for different things [one for the eye makeup, another for the lip, etc.]...which makeup counter[s] will be able to deliver these requests?Which makeup counters are the best for these things?
okay so yes first off you might have to go to different counters to get what you want.

for cover up i would either go to clinic or bare minerals.

for shadow the best is mac and they have the widest range of colors. for a smokey summery eye i like the colors satin taupe and shroom. but for eyelashes dont buy them from a counter you can buy good ones for cheap since youll only be able to wear them 1 to 2 times.

for lip i would also suggest mac becuase they have the most flesh tones lip colors in there collections. i think for summer you should stick to lip gloss and balm. so the best are flesh pot, and in the new neo sci fi collection they have one called naked space which is very nuetral and nude.

so theres my opinion on everything!\ chica!

How long does MAC makeup 'last' when you get it done at the Macy*s counter?

Getting makeup done at MAC counter at Macy's for a wedding?

I am in a wedding this summer. I was wondering if I go to the MAC counter in Macys'...will they do my makeup there to give me ideas how to do it for the wedding day, write it down so if i want to purchase it all to wear the day of the wedding.... I've never got my makeup done by anybody so i dont know if they do that or not.

and also, if i dont buy anything today but go back later to buy it, do i have to tip??Getting makeup done at MAC counter at Macy's for a wedding?
well they do it for u and they just ask you like ok this one or this one and then u just buy wat they used on you

or you can just go in and ask for advice and they will tell youGetting makeup done at MAC counter at Macy's for a wedding?
My sister visited the MAC counter for a makeup trial. The makeup artist put a lot of makeup on her, but my sister was able to buy the products and apply them more practically herself on the wedding day.
MAC counter they have barbie makeup!!!
I recommend calling a Mary Kay consultant. They are generally nice people and will come right to your house and do a makeover for you. They will show you how to apply the makeup, and what to buy. They even have a specialized bridal palette that I saw at the bridal show. They aren't too pricy either and will give you discounts sometimes if you register on their website. I was friends with one and she did my prom makeup for free the day of prom, I didn't even have to buy any (although I did). They have a virtual makeover thing on their site too that is cool.
My sister had her makeup done at a Mac counter for prom, she had to make an appointment and buy $50 worth of product they did a good job its worth it.
You can make an appointment but you have to spend $40 on makeup when you get your makeup done. They will also write down what you need and yes they would be more than happy if you tipped them, but dont expect it
your expected to buy something when they do your make up and i wouldnt suggest them doing it the day oh . the last time i got my makeup done i came out looking like a clown
I don't know if you went there yet to ask them, I did at my local MAC store. I am getting my make up done for my wedding day. You pay them depending on how much experience they have. If you go there, you can't make an appointment until after 11am. I don't know what time your wedding is going to be, and if that will work for you. They don't take more then 2 appointments at a time, so if your bridesmaids wanted to get their make up done too, its not guaranteed. I kept asking all of these questions, and finally the guy said that they aren't supposed to tell you, but all of the workers do have their own little make up businesses, where they will come to you for your wedding day, but your going to pay the price. He told me $150 to do my make up alone as the bride. He said he does a very good job, and it would take an hour or so. Bridesmaids were about $100. Ask when you go there and see what they say about coming to you!
ive never gotten my makeup done there, but i buy the makeup. i buy everything there but just not the foundation and powder. i use este lauder.

i think, i was told, you have to buy 40.00 $ worth of make-up when they are done with you. as far as tips i dont know, but im sure its welcomed.

and you do have to make an appointment.

but they do a nice job.
when you get your makeup down at mac, it costs 50$ or 50$ worth of products

so yes, you have to pay when you get it done
NOOOOOO! Ok MAC has wonderful products really, but not for a wedding day. Chanel doesn't cost much more and they are perfect. Wonderful staying power, the shadows are like velvant and don't get in the creases. Foundation makes you skin look like a makeup ad. Also their artists the most trained. I've gotten my makeup done at probably 5 different channel counters, cause it's sorta one of the perks of buying something that expensive. Diorshow Iconic mascera makes you look almost like your wearing false eyelashes so I'd get them to put that on you instead of any of chanels mascera (although theirs is also good). Generally the implyed cost of a makeover is purchasing 2 items. They won't make you but it's sorta expected. You can get 2 things for under $50 easy. There lip stuff starts at $20 and nail polish is $15 (Btw Ballerina, a light pink polish, could be perfect for your wedding all it'll stay on longer than any other brand). Have them do a practice run through and be super honest about what you like and don't like, then it'll be perfect on your wedding day.

I would suggest you make an appointment at the MAC counter. When you go ask for suggestions and also put in your own input to what you're going for as far as your make- up is concerned, and they will tell you the colors they use for your face as well as the price, but when i went you would have purchase at least $50 worth of make up.
I love mac? I do my make up with them everytime i have an event . they just make you buy 50$ dollars worth of product and they do it for free. They will show you step by step too.

When you get your makeup done at the makeup counters in the mall, like at Macy's...?

Is it an obligation to buy the makeup or can you just go to get your makeup done and not buy anything? When you get your makeup done at the makeup counters in the mall, like at Macy's...?
most of them are really nice about it, especially at urban decay.

I asked to have my foundation done and then she's like oh let me do your blush and then she wanted to try a shadow, and a lip gloss, and do my brows. This happens all the time, just not always at mac.

haha i have left mac looking crazy because sometimes they will mess up my eyeshadow or liner and they wont fix it!When you get your makeup done at the makeup counters in the mall, like at Macy's...?
It's not an obligation the first time, but if you're going to do this habitually, you'll be taking advantage of the girls who work the counter. You're likely to get some nasty glares or be refused service.

If you're really going there to try out products and you intend to buy one of them, then ask a lot of questions about the stuff you like, and compare it to other makeup brands. The staff won't be mad about that.
no the sales people will try and talk you into buying the products tho. but just tell them you dont want to get anything now but that you will later. so at least they'll have hope you'll come back another day or sumthin lol :]

    hope i helped! :]
no just dont go overbord. Tell them your on a budget or something and after you get your make up done, rave about how great you think one of the products is but then explain its simply out of your budget and you cant afford it right now. But assure them you'll come back when/if you get the extra money. Its not a big deal:)
Welll it all depends when i got the Clinque Collection (which i love) they had me try it out first and showed me some tips but i don't think so
you don't have to buy any thing. but don't make it seem like you just went to go get your make up don and then leave.
ive had my make up done and not bought anything...just tell them you wanna try it before you buy it...then just say you'll have to come back...no biggie....its not gonna be full on makeup though if you do this just try out like 1 or 2 products or it will look fishy.

From what I've heard, a big complain with makeup artists at department stores is that ladies often come in wanting to get done for a wedding or occasion, then they leave without buying any products. The makeup artist is there to not only educate people like you, but she is also trying to sell their products as often they are on commission.

I think it's a good idea to go in or make an appointment, and try to buy at least one (if not more) thing that day. Buy the things you really love and don't buy anything you're not happy with.

Another recommendation is to look at the MAC product reviews online before you actually go, so you can get an idea of everyone's favorite products.Getting makeup done at MAC counter at Macy's for a wedding?
They will. And I do not think you have to tip. Ask about A rose romance. A great summer line. They will do your makeup and give you tips. But please buy at least some eyeshadow. It's polite.
oh sure.... and yes, they are on commission, so if you have a big heart, that's outstanding! You can open a new Macys star reward card and also leave a nice compliment by doing the online survey.

  • How much does it cost to get your makeup done at the MAC counter (or any other counter) in a department store?

Most won't charge you a thing, but some will put some pressure on you to buy their products. How much does it cost to get your makeup done at the MAC counter (or any other counter) in a department store?
Here in England it costs around 拢25 for a make over at MAC.How much does it cost to get your makeup done at the MAC counter (or any other counter) in a department store?
Most make-up is applied for free at make-up counters at any mall or department store, especially during sales. They however expect you to buy something they suggest, but you can get away with not buying anything.

Some stores may charge during peak times during holiday seasons or even during prom and other heavy traffic periods.
I got it done for free and bought shadows and brushes
they're usually free, but sometimes you have to book for 鈧?5, but this is redeemable against the products
they usually do it free but will try to sell you products, although you are under no obligation to purchase anything
Mac Cosmetics will teach you different make up techniques as well as do your make up for free. They have promotions all the time for new colors and or products. Just speak to one of the artists and they'll set you up with an appointment.
if it is macy's its free

any other department store mac requires you to buy items that are $40 and more in order to get teh free make over
The sales person cant charge you anything if he/she isn't licensed (if they were, they probably wouldn't be working a make-up counter), so it should be free. They do really like it if you buy the products...
NO COST at all. This is one of the service they will provide to customer . Thats one of the method for them to drive more business. Cus they want to show u the difference using their products, wishing that you might have an urge to buy some home afterwards.

And of course if you don't buy anything after all those efforts they have given, I'm sure they will give you a bad look or something. That's understandable tho.
The makeup application is free if you buy two makeup products.

But for special occassions, like a wedding or prom, they might have different costs.

    Group costs are different too.

It's best to ask a makeup artist what their fees are. The head makeup artist may charge more.

    =)
like 50$ plus some of the products.....
I'm not sure how it is at MAC... but I know that at a lot of places its free to get your makeup done... but then they require you to buy something.

Do the makeup artists at the Macy's makeup counters give a hard sell or a soft sell during makeovers?

do they really push you to buy something after the makeover? and how have they done it in your experience? this is for a class assignment so any answer would be of great help to me!Do the makeup artists at the Macy's makeup counters give a hard sell or a soft sell during makeovers?
As an employee of the Origins counter at Macys I will say that no matter what day it is we ALWAYS push our products. You have to understand that we get commisionof of our sales. Salary starts at 9 an hour, not verymuch when youre living onyour own, commision is 5% of all sale that week. So when someone comes in for a makeover, its kind of an unspoken rule that the customer should buy at least one product that we used. It makes sense though because why wouldnt you want to create the fabulous look your make up artist has created for you? I know that when I finish a makeover i have a real sense of accomplishment if I can get that person to buy at least half the product that I have used. Keep in mind also that while your sitting in that chair the make up artist is giving you their time and attention to bring out your most beautiful features as well as trying to teach you something about makeup, so in return the best way to say thank you is to at least but 2 items they have used and listen to their advice. All that being said, it is ALWAYS a hard sell, but if you feel you are being pushed to hard or the make up artist is being nasty with you ask for someone else or say ';Ill have to walk around and see how this feels on me before i decide I will be back though'; and go back another time.Do the makeup artists at the Macy's makeup counters give a hard sell or a soft sell during makeovers?
Hard sell. They work on commission! They'll also tell you to buy products you don't even need. They are NOT thinking of the customer, just their pocket books.
My sister had a makeover for free at Macys once. They really helped her with her makeup (I was there) and they helped her choose good colors for her foundation, eye shadow, and lipstick. It was more of a helpful makeover rather than a 'please buy something afterwards' deal. It was a good experience and FREE.
Clearly it is a hard sell. They are not going to use their expensive products on you to have you walk away not having bought anything, especially at the high-end counters with better makeup like MAC.
I've only had one, but the girl kept raving how this whole regime made my skin glow and how I looked ';vibrant'; and ';radiant' and she kept flourishing the mirror at me so I could admire her work. Even though I told her that I like the natural look, she went for the ';glam'; look she had in mind and then told me that I should have some of her products in my arsenal for ';those special times.'; When I told her I wanted to show my husband my new look before I decided what to buy she told me maybe I should just take the blusher to ';touch up the look'; to convince him.

    Hope this helps you.
no they just tell you everything they use
Hard sell. Common sense. They're there to SELL.
its al just a marketing strategy- do you honestly think hey'd waste valuable time and money doing makeovers if the final aim wasnt to get persons to purchase? answer is yes indeed they persuade yu into buying the products..
    yes
The counter clerks have to hard sell their products - it's cosmetic sales and most of them do work on commission. Their job is to make you want the product. They could be really good at putting it on, but If they are not good at suggestive sales and don't try hard to sell you something then they probably won't last very long at their job.

I dont know..but one time they tried to at Belks and I wasnt even sitting at their table..so..I wonder if they tell you about what you will look like after the makeover wears off?I wonder what guys think about when they wake up next to a heavily made up girl and see her without her face on..thats soo gross I bet..sorry but Im not into all the make up..natural beauty here..but i gave you an answer..you do need all sides of the story dont you for your class asignment?Good Luck!
I recently went to MAC to get my makeup done for my birthday night out.. and i called to setup an appt and they told me there was a $40.00 minimum that you had to buy. I got my makeup done (it was awesome!) and just bought one item since i am a regular MAC customer and didnt see anything else i needed... i only paid $25ish dollars... i think they say that just so you dont assume they dont always do it for free... man if they did... id be there every friday night...hehe... =)
They will say anything to make you feel good about yourself. These makeup artist are not there to sell product, they are there to boast your confidence.
umm just tell them fu i just came for a free make over :P get up and live!!
usually they never leave you alone so hard sale.

Does it cost to get your makeup done at the MAC counter/store?

It's ';polite'; but here's the thing. If you are getting your makeup done then it should be bc you want to try a new product. If you try it and don't like it, you shouldn't feel obligated to buy anything. And a tip? You've got to be kidding me. They earn commission on whatever they sell you. They can't have it both ways. Also - who made up this rule about $30-40 minimum for a purchase? That's ridiculous. Just buy whatever products you truly liked.

Now, if you are getting full face makeup done, just bc you want it professionally applied, then yes - you're a cheapskate if you like the products but don't buy something.Does it cost to get your makeup done at the MAC counter/store?
no, but they are going to sell you something, and its kind of rude not to buy anything after they wast their time putting makeup on you....they work on commissionDoes it cost to get your makeup done at the MAC counter/store?
    no..............
No, it's free, but they expect you to buy $40 of cosmetics and a tip. You don't have to buy what they used on you that day. You could buy $40 worth of lipgloss if you wanted to. I've had it done before a few times.
The Mac counter or any other cosmetic counter will do your makeup with the minimum purchase of 2 items. If you were getting it done for prom or a special event you most likely would want that fab lip color or that perfect foundation. Yeah I worked it before.
No but you have to buy some of the product that they are using on you
nope... tho i would set an appointment because they get really busy starting around now
nope but make sure you get an appointment just to polite!
No, But they like you to buy at least $30.00 worth of their products or the makeup they use on you.
No, but a purchase is expected and customary. Usually around $30.

For those who work at the makeup counters(Sephora, Clinique)?

Is it annoying when ppl ask you for samples? Is there a specific amount you have to give or do you give more to those you favor? I feel so bad but I really want to try things and I'm afraid to annoy them and really get them mad leading to no product sample at all. Experience only please! For those who work at the makeup counters(Sephora, Clinique)?
Samples are how people in cosmetics make their money. You try it on in the store, you get a sample and use it at home and come back and buy it. But there is a limit in theory. You don't want to always come in and ask for samples nor do you want to ask for more then 2 or 3 at a time. It's just kind of rude. But never be afraid to ask for one. If they can make a sample of it they will. If they can't understand when they say no. Some counters don't get the little cups to put them in and certain products just don't travel well as a sample. The best place to get samples is at Bare Escentuals or Sephora. They always have the containers and don't mind making them for you. For those who work at the makeup counters(Sephora, Clinique)?
    i work at cosmetic market

What kind of look can i get with this makeup? (makeup artists/ MAC counter people, this is for you)?

i have nine MAC pigments (dark purple, light purple, dark blue, copper, yellow, champagne, white, fuchsia, %26amp; a VERY light pink) , revlon sugar sugar lip topping in a pink color, dark brown liquid eyeliner, liquid foundation, black pencil eyeliner, four victorias secret beauty rush eyeshadows in baby pink, light green, light blue, and a purpleish color ,

a teal pencil eyeliner, a light purple pencil eyeliner, light pink shimmerey revlon lipgloss, sparkley pink lipglosses, covergirl pink shimmery lipgloss, clear lipgloss, and more lipglosses of that sort, oh and a black revlon mascara thats one side is a white primer and the other side is black mascara.

i dont have a closet full of makeup, so can anyone think of a look for me that i can do with my makeup?

i dont care if its dramatic, or subtle, im looking for a cute lok that i can either wear to parties, or just to the mall/beach, anywere.

the person who can give me a good look gets ten points and my dearest thanks!!What kind of look can i get with this makeup? (makeup artists/ MAC counter people, this is for you)?
since it is summer i don't really think the liquid foundation would be a good idea for you because the heat tends to make it melt. try a tinted moisturizer. they're light and usually have spf in them. as far as color...i would go for the copper pigment on the eyes, black or brown mascara, and a light pink to clear lipgloss (no sparkles if your eye shade already has it...but totally up to your preference). also if you want, investing in a good powder bronzer for your face is a plus for the season. just highlight the areas the sun will hit (forehead, cheekbones and bridge of the nose). it's a good summery look...hope this helps! What kind of look can i get with this makeup? (makeup artists/ MAC counter people, this is for you)?
    Shure
for a dramatic look...... well first of all.. i dont know what color you eyes are....if they are brown..i would use black mascara, with midnight blue eyeliner on top and bottom lids. that color pops out your eye color,at night you may go with the black eyeliner .

    or do they charge?

and if they do how much is the average rate?Do the makeup artists at the mac counters in the mall do prom makeup for free?

• Do i have to pay to get my makeup done at a M.A.C counter or pay a tip??

if you buy $30.00 worth of M.A.C makeup then you get a free makeover.

Where can i find temp work on makeup counters?

Try your local mall and/or department stores, and since it's near the holidays they're probably looking for someone to hire already.Where can i find temp work on makeup counters?
Try departments stores, I'm sure they will be in need of help what with christmas comin up!Where can i find temp work on makeup counters?

    mall
Yeah, try department stores, they'll need people especially as christmas is coming up =)
try sumwhere like boots, or department stores such as debenhams
it's like looking for a fart in a jacuzzi.
If you are looking for part-time work in make-up...I suggest you look into Mary Kay Cosmetics. Unlike the department store...where you earn 5% of your sales...in MK you earn 50%! You may be thinking it is not for you - I didn't think it was for me...but I was pleasantly surprised. You owe it to yourself to at least look into it a little. It's $100 to start your business - and there is only a cost associated because of the products and tools they give you.
