Can you bring in pictures of what you want your makeup to look like at the makeup counter?

I am 14 and I would love for my makeup to look like Blair's:

http://a5.vox.com/6a00fae8e7a002000b0110…

I am going to the clinque (or is there somewhere better to go for the kind of makeup I want..?) soon to buy stuff.

Can I bring in a picture and have them show me how to do makeup like hers?

Or is that totally wierd?

Haha.

Thanks!

:DCan you bring in pictures of what you want your makeup to look like at the makeup counter?
nope, its definitely not weird. some places will actually request you bring in a picture or a basic sketch of what look youre going for.

when i got my makeup done for prom, i brought in a picture of a model with a very classic hollywood look because my prom theme was 1920s. the look was flawless skin, red cupid bow lips and some liquid eyeliner. i asked if i could get that exact look except with a bit more focus on my eyes because im used to wearing quite a bit of eye makeup. of course, the makeup artist will adjust the look a little to suit your face just as the makeup artist probably adjusted his look to suit the models face. i would definitely recommend bringing in a photo just so that the artist can see the overall look, and not just make a mental image from your description.

by the way i got my makeup done at mac, and theyre very good at translating a look from paper to your face. Can you bring in pictures of what you want your makeup to look like at the makeup counter?
Absolutely. It is wayy better to have a picture instead of trying to guess what shades to get to replicate the look you want.

Remember they are there to help you :) I always go to bare escentuals for shadows and such. plus I like their brushes.

you might need a contour brush for a cleaner look (brush used for blending).

From what I can see in the pic:

step 1: apply a light-toned shadow from inner-corner at a diagonal up to brow line.

step 2: use shadow brush to pull darker color up from inner corner going outward to cover eyelid. Then use the contour brush to apply a medium shaded shadow above lid to blend dark and light together.
You should totally bring the picture.

It will be easier for the makeup artist because she already knows what to do and you don't have to worry about how it's going to turn out.
Bringing a picture will help both of you. Clinique will definitely have those colors, but you can also try a Sephora for more options.
if i were you i'd head to sephora, they've got clinique plus loads of other great brands!
ya you can bring the picture!! that would totally help.
Sure why not? Isn't that what employees are supposed to do, help you?
no i think it will be very helpful to them!!
my ex did tht at a mac makeup booth at the mall so i guess ya

  • I was really mean to a makeup counter lady, and I feel so bad about it!?

I thought she was being rude to me, and ignorning me. Normally they are really nice at this counter, and they know me there! I worked at the same macy's briefly, never worked with the same girl though. My friend made me feel bad about it too! Should I feel really bad? My friend later told me ';oh the girl was just a little slow';...so i felt really bad. I wasn't like yelling at her or anything, i just gave her dirty looks and rolled my eyes as i walked away when she said she didn't have my products. Next time I go to the counter, I feel like i'll be so embarrased! Should i be extra nice to her next time? Ugh, i'm normally not a mean person, cuz i kno how it feels when people are mean to makeup ladies!! I feel like a jerkkk please help!I was really mean to a makeup counter lady, and I feel so bad about it!?
Well... I hate to say it but ppl who work in retail remember the faces of the people who are really rude to them. I still remember them years later (granted, I wasn't a busy pharmacist.. I was just a cashier). I couldn't tell you what the nice people looked like.. she might remember you next time you go there. So be extra nice every time you go there from now on. Maybe put in a good word with her supervisor to make her look like a better employee.I was really mean to a makeup counter lady, and I feel so bad about it!?
Well, I've had some customers apologize to me for their mood. I work in retail pharmacy.

Anyway, every time a customer comes up and apologizes for how they acted last time, I have no idea what they're talking about. I'm just way too busy trying to get prescriptions filled on time that I don't have any time to dwell on any matter.

If you wait a long time, she probably won't remember you. You may feel that you were rude, or ';short'; with her, but if you weren't actually yelling at her, she probably won't remember it, especially after a while.
    say your sorry.

    and dont do that again.

    be xtra nice too.
Take this as a learning experience. And yes, you need to go to her personally and apologize for being a customer ';having a bad day, and that you are so sorry that you made her day worse with a poor attitude. She, no doubt, will forgive quickly. Ask if there is anything you can do to make up for it, and before you go, pick up a gift card at a bookstore, or coffee shop and put it in a really cute card with a note and give it to her. It will make you both fall in love with life again. The extra effort will reinforce in your mind not to behave like that again. And remember, we all are not perfect, so please forgive yourself and enjoy life again.
OMG-- I was in a situation like that. I went to belk to buy some makeup from Fashion Fair and usually the ladies are nice to me. But this one lady that was working that day was a real snob. She had a really bad attitude, and was very sarcastic to me. I thought I was gonna have to cuss her out. I gave the same treatment to her after I figured her out. I rolled my eyes and snatched by bag from her as I left. At first I felt embrassed and wanted to apologize for my actions but I thought to myself,'' why?she was so rude to me.'' I havent seen her since that day obviously she doesnt work there anymore. But what I am trying to say is not everyone is gonna act like we think they should. If you feel that you were in the wrong apologize for it, if not then dont. You be the judgement if that. Not everyone is nice. To get respect you/ they must give it. : ))) Dont feel bad or embrassed-
I worked as a makeup artist for two years...and it's one of the hardest jobs because you have to work with people's faces. Think about it: you put all sorts of energy into trying to fix people's insecurities, and they have every right in the world to say: ';It looks like crap, do it again.'; Retail in general is an awful job. Who wants to talk to people all the time. That said: it's not Helpful to roll your eyes and give dirty looks. Maybe she was genuinely busy or just needed a breather. How would you feel?
well i think you should go and apologize to the lady for the way you behaved.
    just a apologize.
next time just be yourself. when she notices that you aren`t always like you were today, she will think that you were just having a bad day and thats why you were rude.

I got an Interview with a makeup counter at Macy's...?

I live in New york...and I love make up, and I can put it on pretty well also. The makeup line I chose is for the woman of color...I even use this product myself, and I love it! I apply for a make up counter job at Macy's, and I got an interview next week. Any advice as far as the questions, that are being ask? This is my first time working retail, so this will be very interesting...any advice? have anyone worked at a make up counter? is it fun?I got an Interview with a makeup counter at Macy's...?
Dress for the part. Be confident but not aggressive. Smile, wear your make up just right, not overdoing it. Dress in business colors, like tans or blues, not pop in in clothes like a disco. Show any expertise you may have %26amp; practice on an individual or 2 before you go. Good luck!

How do I describe this makeup to the people at the makeup counter?

I want to know how to put it on a certain way, so I figured they could show me how (it's free right?) and tell me which products I'd need to buy. I'm either going to Sephora or MAC, maybe tell me which one is better too?

Oh and as for the makeup I want it sort of like this girls', but not as extreme, since this'd be my first time wearing makeup in public. xDDD

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/9109/44鈥?/a>How do I describe this makeup to the people at the makeup counter?
You can print out a pic and show them, but I would say that it's heavy black, really thick, and covers the whole eye lid as well as a bit of a liner at the bottom. Very gentle almost nude lips, and a very smooth, light tan/pale facial complexion. How do I describe this makeup to the people at the makeup counter?
Tell them you'd like a punky smokey eye. I also don't recommend going to the MAC counter unless you like INTENSE makeup. I worked at a MAC counter for a few years and the artists are supposed to do heavy makeup. Most of the makeup we do looks awesome in photographs and on the runway but most people cannot pull it off in every day life. You should go to Sephora.
they usually do give the advice for free, but will try and sell you something at the end of it. they will more than likely tell you the best colours for your skin tone and things like that. they can show you how to apply the eyeliner like the girl in the pic, its up to you how thick you put it on!
    Smokey eyes x

    Sephora makeup counter?

so the free makeup demo thing how do you ask them to do that? do you just ask if they can do a make over on your face or what?Sephora makeup counter?
you have to get something first. they're not just going to give you a totally free make over. that's just like wasting their time.Sephora makeup counter?
If they advertise ';free make-up demo'; they have to provide the service with no purchase necessary or they would have to change their ad to say, ';with purchase of...'; I do believe it's free in NH.
I don't know if this is only where I live. But here (Phx,AZ) we have to buy something first. Anything really. Like a lipstick or a little bit of shadow. Then they will easily do it for you :)
i live in phx too and you can just ask them to do it without buying anything

Are salon/professional hair care products, facial products and makeup better than over the counter products?

Places like Walmart, Walgreens and grocery stores have a wide array of hair care, facial and makeup products. I wonder if salon/professional products are better quality than these over the counter products and if so, why. Or is there little or no difference between where you buy your products? Are salon/professional products just a scam to make money by claiming their products are higher quality or is there truth to their claim? Are salon/professional hair care products, facial products and makeup better than over the counter products?
There's a difference.Thats why they're used in the salons cuz thats what ur paying for.If they used the same products, they would have to charge less. Are salon/professional hair care products, facial products and makeup better than over the counter products?
They are way better than walmart sure there more money but you only need a little bit but with the walmart stuff you use hand fulls and hand fulls so in the end walmart is wat more money with really bad results!
Some professional products are unbelieveably worse than some over-the-counter products! And you won't know which are good or bad until you try them. But I just stick with over-the-counter products... I think it's unnessecary to spend more money for something I could buy for cheap that just has a different label.
The book you need to read is: Natural Beauty: Pamper Yourself With Salon Secrets at Home by Laura Dupriest. The author owns her own spa and salon, she was a model and instructs people on this every single day. You will be surprised when you read this book.

Girls, have you ever seen a guy getting his makup done at the makeup counter or shopping for pantyhose?

i HAVE WAITED ON A MAN WHO WAS BUYING LADIES CLOTHES FOR HIMSELF. HE HAD WANTED TO USED THE LADIES FITTING ROOM TO TRY ON CLOTHES ,.... THAT IS A HARD DECISION TO MAKE SHOULD I LET SHIM USE THE MEN'S OR LADIES FITTING ROOM. WE COULD NOT LET SHIM USE THE LADIES DUE TO RESPECT FOR THE OTHER COSTUMERS. WE HAD LET SHIM USE THE EMPLOYEES RESTROOM TO TRY ON CLOTHES, SO THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY COMPLAINTS. I HAD HELP[ SHIM WITH A COUPLE OF DRESSES, HE TOOK THE ONES I HAD SUGGESTED.Girls, have you ever seen a guy getting his makup done at the makeup counter or shopping for pantyhose?
I've never seen anyone get makeup done at a makeup counter, male or female. I don't buy pantyhose enough to notice who else buys it.Girls, have you ever seen a guy getting his makup done at the makeup counter or shopping for pantyhose?
    No
Not so far, but I suppose in this day and age, anything is possible! lol.
    wow!!! CROSSDRESSER!!!
    hell, i give 'em TIPS!
No but I have seen a man shopping in the woman's lingerie department. Later on, he was headed towards the dressing rooms, and he went in, the employee inside sent him to a men's dressing room.
I've never seen men getting makovers. NOT NORMAL.

I have seen men shopping for pantyhose...no big deal. Lots of men shop for their wives/girlfriends, ie clothes, feminine hygiene prducts and abby products. I think more men should be as supportive.
    Yup.

    Well not the pantyhose thing....

But makeup yes. Ive even gone shopping with a few guy friends for makeup so people would think it was mine. Or gone to the salon thing for them to get makeup done. But I think I might be a little too ';eh'; about it for some peoples taste. It's actually my guy friends who are trying to teach me how to wear makeup but I dun think I'll ever learn. %26gt;_%26lt; (yes I know off topic)

But yeah. I've seen it. I've seen guys I didn't know buying makeup and getting their makeup done, and I've gone with guys I do know to do that.
No, but good for them if they feel like doing it. I don't see anything wrong with it.
no! did u see a gay guy?!
    no i can't say i have..lol
No and I don't think i ever will.
noooooooooooo, never and i don't even want to see ori'll wet my pants due to laughing
I've seen guys shopping for pantyhose but I think they're just shopping for it for thier gf or mom, auant, grandma, ect.......
I once waited on a guy who had a dress on. He was buying kotex pads. He was very nice. lol
I've seen it but it probably doesn't count because it was my bf and I was the reason he was buying them! But they were for him anyway, I think its so hot when he wears my clothes! Guys should be more open about these things, I LOVE wearing my pantyhose, they slim me, keep me warm, and eliminate my visable panty line (important!). If girls can do it why not guys?
NO! And I don't plan to. Why do you ask?
    no wayy

  • Makeup done at makeup counter?

Do you know if they charge you to get your makeup done at the makeup counter like dillards and stuff.? want to switch to like clinic but I want to try it first.Makeup done at makeup counter?
Most of the time it's free. The only thing about makeup counters though is that they use the same products over and over on different people. I saw a few news stories where they looked into it, and there is so much bacteria, skin cells, and worse in the makeup they use. I would try to find samples of the products to try at home.Makeup done at makeup counter?
It's free, but it's generally considered a nice thing to do to buy one of the products they used on you afterwards (they are paid on commissions, and their starting salaries aren't that high). But, if it's for a special occasion, they're usually totally happy to do it for you without you needing to buy stuff along with it. Just tell them about it and what you're looking for lookwise, and they'll have fun with it.
Sometimes, Yes. Ive always had my makeup done at the Estee Lauder counter --at Dillards they wanted me to buy two items or more, at Macys they expected nothing. I know clinique doesn't charge and im not sure about the others. Usually they like you to buy something since they work on commission.
they dont charge but your suposed to bye it after you dont HAVE to but its not a big deal if you dont....the whole point is that you can see if you like it or not so if you dont you dont have to
It's usually free, they are just hoping you'll buy something they used on you.
It's free, who would pay to have someone else's germs and dead skin particles applied to their face?

ie: tester make-up and brushes used!
It depends on which counter you go to. At most counters, including Clinic, you are required to buy a certain number of items or spend a certain amount for them to do your make up. Unless you hit a nice girl or some kind of promotion, you will most likely be paying.
Yeah but watch out they may only do half your face! Just be prepared to buy some products if your wanting the full treatment!!!
    it's free.
no, it's complimentary, but of course they expect you to buy atleast one product. You should go to the Clinique counter during ';bonus time'; bcuz you'll get a lot of extra makeup free if you purchase something. their website will tell you when bonus time is. www.clinique.com
Sure, they'll do it for free. When I went in they had advertised in the paper that the Clinique reps would be there to do it , and sure enough they could not have been more helpful. They gave me a great look for work and for the evening. If you buy everything they recommend, you could easily spend $300.00 just for your daytime makeup. I've been really happy with the line since I don't even need to touch it up during the day. And if you don't like what they do, don't buy. You have no obligation to do so. Have fun!
most make-up counters will do your make-up for free but they may expect you to buy a gloss, lip liner or something small like that
Those makeup counters will paint you like a drag queen. Clinique is great and is worth the money spent. Ask for some samples. I highly reccomend it!
yea they charge and i really want to go...i think its good to have a professional let you know what colors are for you and your skin, hair and eye color...well worth it
Most major department stores will offer you makeup for free to try, and will work with you to show you the best ways to wear it.
No, they do it free, it's advertisement for them!
They will usually do a free makeover to help you pick colors.
it's usually free, although some places like MAC just recommend you buy something but it isn't necessary.
No there is no charge - you may need an appointment though. They will do it for free so you can try their products and hope you buy.
clinic will do your make up for free in belks i know
I think it's free, just let them know you are interested in buying their products
They'll do it for free, especially if you tell them you're interested in buying some products. It's only the teens that come in to get makeup done for proms and dances and stuff that make those stores sometimes charge - but if you're a legitimate customer, it should be free.
Clinique will provide that service at no charge.
no they do it for free
I know Dillard's does it for free, its a great way to try new products and perhaps a new look for your self.. Don't be shy just ask : )

How do you approach makeup counters?

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you approach makeup counters? I usually will check the internet/reviews before going out to buy something, so I know exactly what I want. But it feels really weird just going up to a counter and listing everything you want to buy. Seems a little rushed, like ordering take out food ....How do you approach makeup counters?
GIRL I LOVE CLIENTS LIKE YOU! Here is the deal. A lot of us who work at counters are bogged down all day with a ton of questions. Most of us like questions thats why we are there but someone who comes in and says hey this is what I need is a gem! It's also great because you can chat with an artist and get to know them so if you ever did want to go in and just have your make-up done or needed it done for a special occasion you already have a relationship with him/her. The bottom line is that artist are at the counters to do it all. Grab items off a list or do a full application and answer any questions. That is why we are all trained by the lines we represent. I do recommend bringing a list. A lot of people think we are like servers at a diner. Where we can remember everything you ask us for. A list totally helps. Just walk in and take a look around and find someone you would feel comfortable chatting with. Go from there. Never feel uncomfortable or shy. You are there to get what you need we are there to get it for you. Just be totally cool and they will as well. How do you approach makeup counters?
just go up to the counter and the lady/man working it will ask if they could help you and then say something like ';Oh, I would like to get the ...'; and then they most likely will give you samples i went to a clinique counter at macy's in the summer and wanted to buy this eyeshadow set and the lady helped me find a better set and helped me since thats their job is to help you
Haha I know, i was like that my first time going to a counter.

basically, just go up to it and wait for someone to come and help you. Just tell them what you need if you know already. Dont be afraid to ask any questions about the product or how to apply it, its their job to answer them after all. Once youre done telling them what you need, theyll pick out the products and youll buy them at the counter.

haha its not as scary as it seems, they wont bite ;D
The only thing I remember when going into Sephora was that the employees hunt you down like hawks! They won't stop asking you questions, and staring at you!

My best advice is to satisfy them by asking them where to look for (whatever), because you won't feel too comfortable when the employees sneak up on you when looking at a product you like.

    Makeup counter meeting?

I'm 12 and i am going to start wearing makeup. Can I go to a makeup counter like at macy's and learn how to out on some makeup and still look natural? How much would it cost for the meeting %26amp; makeup?Makeup counter meeting?
$150 and higher, makeup counters are insanely expensive and yeah, lessons are probably over $200. so like $350+ for all of it.

you dont need makeup at 12. thats just gross.

Is it hard to get a job at the makeup counter at Macy's?

you have to know how to put makeup on other people and you also have to use the brand of makeup you will be selling , and know a lot about it, so yes I think it's kinda hard. you have to be outgoing, plus, you have to have the right look, attractive neat and clean, because they judge you on thatIs it hard to get a job at the makeup counter at Macy's?
It is if you live in the UK like I do. It would be hell to commute to work every dayIs it hard to get a job at the makeup counter at Macy's?
    Not really .

Well , it depends on if yurr good with makeup .

    Yaa knoww ?

I was offered a job as a Dior makeup counter manager...?

anyone know anything about the job itself???and the dress code.I was offered a job as a Dior makeup counter manager...?
well if you will be working for Dior, you need to dress sophisticated (black pants, blouse and even a black blazer). Some department stores require Dior associates wear stocking if they wear skirts. You need to look very presentable and well groomed.

a counter manager basically means you are in charge of inventory, new hires, closing registers, making sure you meet day (in sales), do timekeeping, anything that a regular manager would do. I don;t know what the pay is though. You also have to deal with the btchy customers and the unsatisfied ones.I was offered a job as a Dior makeup counter manager...?
basically dress code is black and close toe shoe.. the job title is pretty manage other makeup artist and meet the sales goal expectation.. down side is that u have to be there when someone is sick or on vacation
I only know that u have to do your makeup really good so peole will buy Dior
idk but that sounds liek a really cool job congrats

How do you ask those people at makeup counters to help you?

do you just plop yourself up on those chairs?

or do u actuallly have to like....choose an item and ask them how it works or whatnot?

for example, what do you do at sephora? How do you ask those people at makeup counters to help you?
walk up to one and ask for assitance for example say what you want like at sephora be like i'm looking for mascara

but at a counter like at clinique or antoher one in a department store ask for a makeup evaluation. they'll do your makeup with colors and products good for you based on your coloring and other questions they ask you (skin type, time to get ready, going out look vs. everyday look etc...)How do you ask those people at makeup counters to help you?
How do you get them to leave you alone? Maybe they think I just need a lot of help. lol. Anyways,...just ask them for a demonstration of their brand. They usually are fully ready to give you the once over! Just don't get talked into 200 dollars worth of make-up.
First you have to visit the magical wizard of asking questions and be granted the power of asking people stuff. then you go ask the person. But you've obviously done that already because you just asked a question right now. So GO ASK FOR HELP!
just ask to get your make up done
Actually, if they see you looking at the products they should ask you if you need help the moment they are not busy.

  • Did you go to a Sephora or MAC counter to get your makeup done?

And your hair done at your regular salon? Or did you have someone come to you at the ceremony venue to get you and your attendants dolled up?

What are the pros and cons of each?Did you go to a Sephora or MAC counter to get your makeup done?
My sister %26amp; I went to MAC for our make-up the day of her wedding. You need to pre-book. Went went to her hair dressers for our hair.

    pros = cheaper

cons = driving aroundDid you go to a Sephora or MAC counter to get your makeup done?
I'm not married yet, but I plan on having someone from a salon (or a makeup artist) do my makeup. I would not go to a store like Sephora to have my makeup done. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Sephora. However, the people who work there are sales people. They do know a thing or two about applying makeup, but I don't believe they have to go to cosmetology school.

In the long run, they are going to sell you what the ';hot'; products are. They are going to use their opinion on what looks good when applying your makeup. A makeup artist or someone in a salon is trained to understand how to apply makeup for people who will be having their pictures taken, people who will be wearing makeup for long periods of time. Plus, I think they are more knowledgeable on what colors look good for what skin colors and such. Also, don't forget. Makeup artists know how to bring out your best features. Not all mall sales people know how to do that.

As for my hair, that's being done at the salon. I'm not good at doing my own hair, so I'm leaving that up to the professionals too.

I got my makeup done at a Clinique counter. I did a practice run several weeks ahead of time, and they wrote down all the colors we agreed on so the wedding day could be as fast as possible. They didn't charge me anything, I just had to do a 2 item purchase so I thought it was a great deal. They did a beautiful job, too! So I highly recommend it.

A lot of people have their hairdresser also do the makeup, but I don't think they're as good at all.

As for going to a salon, or having someone come to you, I'm sure it's just a matter of cost. They will probably charge you more to come to you, but it may be more convenient. I just allotted the entire morning to get ready, so it was no big deal for me to go first to the salon and then to the makeup counter.

    Good luck!
I had a certified Bobbi Brown cosmetician do my make-up. Luckily, I knew her through a friend, so I was able to meet her at my friend's house to get ready. I got my hair done at my regular salon. My attendants were all on their own, since I provided their dresses and put no specifications on their hair/make-up.

Pros of someone at your venue:

+ you don't have to worry about getting to different places on time

+ they are available for touch-ups throughout the day/night

+ you'll ensure all your girls are ready when they're supposed to be

Cons of someone at your venue:

    - $$$ this gets expensive!

    - it's probably not necessary. your hair and make-up should hold all day/night with minimum touch-ups you can do yourself

    Pros of going somewhere:

    + it's usually cheaper

    Cons of going somewhere:

    - a trial run is a good idea to make sure you like what the person does (actually, this is a good practice whether you go to them or they come to you)

    - i don't know if you can make a reservation with someone at a make-up counter, but you'd definitely want to do this to be sure they're available when you need them

    - time management is needed so you get where you need to be on time

I got married on a holiday so the salon that I go to was actually closed. It turned out to be a blessing because I asked the stylist if she'd be willing to come to my house and do my hair. She agreed and she did my makeup too!

It was great that I didn't have to do any running around on my wedding day. If you can do this I recommend it. Just so you're more relaxed on your special day. : )
I got really lucky. My cousin's best friend works at MAC so she came and did my makeup. My sister-in-law does hair so she styled my hair. They both came to me and did it all for free (I got them each a gift card to their favorite store as a thank you)!
you can go to a mac counter and its 55 dollars to get your makeup done.

i would have a stylist come to me to get my hair done.

Is makeup artist at a cosmetic counter a good job?

As long as you are comfortable with plugging the specific brand you are working for. If you are independent or want to recommend other brands, this might not be a good idea.

I personally do not like or trust the makeup artist at a cosmetic counter. Some of them have made me look like a clown. But even worse, they seem to be trained to insult you just to get you to buy their products. (e.g. ';You skin looks so wrinkled! or dry! You need this moisturizer, blah, blah';.) The next time they try to insult me, I might counter with, ';Hey if your product line is so great, how come your skin isn't perfect?';Is makeup artist at a cosmetic counter a good job?
i like the previous answer, they do make you think you need all that stuff. i like mac makeup artists though. they always do a good job.Is makeup artist at a cosmetic counter a good job?
Yes for a start and getting experience. You need

to open up your on make up shop or booth.

LIVE YOUR DREAM, AND REACH FOR A STAR.
For a career it's like any other sales job so I would say no. If you're working through your university degree or whatever qualifications you're trying to get then sure, if you like makeup and touching people it's fine.
well i have a friend that works in a dept store counter and he makes $16.00 dollars an hour! Plus the manger over all the counters makes $52,000 a year. Not too shabby.
If it's what you want to do,yes.
if your good at it the better the pay. usally around 10 to 13 dollars at first then you get better and better and you will get more money
It is if it pays the bills and you feel good about yourself.
If this is something you enjoy doing, then I consider this to be a great job! Any job you have, I believe, is a good one as long as you enjoy doing what you're doing.
If you enjoy doing makeup then yes, it is a good job!

Which makeup department counter do you recommend for...?

a Foundation/powder for oily skin and to cover blemishes that WON'T make me breakout?

Oh btw, if I have to buy foundation does that include that I also have to buy the face powder? and (vice versa.)

thanks.Which makeup department counter do you recommend for...?
clinique counters have a variety of skin products. they have an anti-acne foundation, regular foundation, etc. and you don't have to purchase them as a set. you can buy one, try it out, and go back for the other if you like it! the prices aren't outrageous eitherWhich makeup department counter do you recommend for...?
Powder foundation and powder are two different things. Powder foundation is best for people with oily skin since it absorbs excess oil and prevents shine, and it is meant to be worn all over for coverage. You do not need to apply any other powder over it to finish it. Finishing powder is meant to apply over liquid foundation to absorb excess oil and to set your foundation so it stays in place, but it doesn't usually provide coverage the way foundation does. Bottom line: if you have oily skin, use powder foundation only. Powder over that is optional but it can make your skin look funny.

Use a mineral foundation. I really like L'oreal Bare Minerals powder foundation, blush, concealer, bronzing powder and finishing shimmer powder (not a powder but a sheer shimmer that brightens your skin). It's great, inexpensive and the best I have ever tried. Glo Minerals is also great, and they make a great pressed and loose powder base foundation and oil absorbing powder, if you're able to spend more money.
sorry i dont rally understand what you're asking but heres my make up advise for you....

if u want cheap try going to to target they have plenty of products from different companie like maybelle nyc etc....

otherwise just take a search for the products you need, but normally you should ask your doctor what they recomend for your oily skin, because each skin has its own problems, i did that same thing.. though a different product and it worked great...

god luck, hope i helped you enough!
Maybe you should try Artistry time defiance. They have skin care system from normal to dry, Combination to oily, Derma erase etc... if you would like to try this brand the address is www.shoptga.com I hope this helps.
I have really sensitive skin that breaks out a lot, and the only thing I can use is Lancome. Clinique broke me out SO BAD that it took months to repair the damage it did to my face.
    marykay
clinique.....they have a powder foundation thats nice so you only need one product and have a good skin care line...
    Hmm

I work at Macy's makeup counter, it's my 4th day and they're putting me on the floor alone with no training!?

I work at Macy's makeup counter, it's my 4th day and their putting me on the floor with no training. I went to othe training courses and they had 4 people to a computer to learn the register. It's confusing to me. My manager is kind of mean and won't teach me the register because she is on a power trip and stubbon. I want to learn but she just won't budge!

Because of the terrible management at Macy's, they're putting me on the floor tomorrow on Monday BY MYSELF.

I work at the makeup counter at Clarins. What are the steps I need to remember?

How to do a basic cash/credit card transaction. Put in associate number and ID, T1 then WHAT? My manager won't help me!

Even if you don't know the register, anything you can tell me that would help would be great!

Thanks!I work at Macy's makeup counter, it's my 4th day and they're putting me on the floor alone with no training!?
maybe this will teach your manager a lesson. don't worry. when i first started working the cash register, i had no clue. just tell the customers your new. just try to enjoy work. but if you are having a lot of trouble during your shift, maybe you can ask a girl from another counter to show you really quickly how to work the registerI work at Macy's makeup counter, it's my 4th day and they're putting me on the floor alone with no training!?
Pray. And be thankful you ave a job.

Which makeup do I really need from those suggested at makeup counters?

I love Bobbi Brown makeup since it is simple and classic with a modern twist. However, it seems like so much makeup to have to buy and to have to put on every day.

For work, do I really need all of these:

    Moisturizer

    Foundation

    Powder

    Bronzer

    Blush

    Lipliner

    Lipstick

    Lipgloss

    Eyebase

    Eyeliner

    Eyeshadows--lid, crease, highlighter

    Mascara

This just seems so excessive! Please tell me which products are ';necessities'; and which products I really don't need.

    Thanks!

LiWhich makeup do I really need from those suggested at makeup counters?
from the top section, just powder and moisturizer. foundation clogs pores and causes acne. don't use bronzer...it causes wrinkles faster. i don't even know what eye base is so im sure its not very much needed. just use eyeshadow on the top lid, and maybe a little line where the eye points to make them pop out. if you are trying to make your small eyes look bigger, do eyeliner all the way on the top and bottom. gray looks more natural. if your trying to make big eyes look small, put eyeliner only on the bottom, half way. If you have long dark eyelashes, don't use mascara. loose the lip liner, and try to find a shimmery lip stick so that you don't have to use lip stick and gloss. i hope you like my answer:)Which makeup do I really need from those suggested at makeup counters?
    moisturizer

    foundation

    get bronzer mineral powder

    lipgloss

    eyeliner

    mascara

    eyeshadow

are necessities for me but some days i just use the first four and mascara without eyeliner and eyeshadow and it looks good :)
You should use a moisturizer every day... if your skin has a good even color already then dont use foundation or powder... bronzer instead of blush.. lipstick. dont need liner and gloss, eyeliner/mascara and if you want to wear shadow then shadow
    Okay cut these

    blush ( bronzer is enough)

    Lip liner

    Eyebase

    Lip stick

like unless you really want to where these then i would cut them u might not need the powder but i recomnd it
I would say you should get the foundation. Bobbi brown has really good foundation, and it isn't anything like drugstore foundation, it is so much better! I would cross off the list powder and moisturizer because they are about the same qualtiy as drugstore brands.

The blush is something I would say you would need more than a bronzer. I suppose a blush would look really good with the foundation, if you decide to buy that. I love their blushes, they are great! The best blush I have ever tried.

Out of the lip products you listed, I would say the lkip stick or lip gloss, whichever one you think you would use more. They are both really high quality, and the lip liner is something that is just average. I have found better at drugstores, and they are so much cheaper.

For the eyes, I would suggest getting the eyeliners and eyeshadows. Again, they are really high quality and I love them so much, but as for the bases, I have found better, not so much drugstore brands, but like clinique or MAC has better quality. Drugstores have grea mascaras, i find some of themn better than the Bobbi Brown kind. :D

    Hope I Helped :D
    Moisturizer

    Foundation

    Powder

    Lipgloss

    Eyeliner

    Mascara

Blush only if u r too pale.
    Ahh I love bobby brown!

Moisturizer you can buy from any drug store or Walmart, if you pay a little more, like 10 dollars instead of 5, you can get the same quality and finish feel that Bobby Brown offers.

I recommend getting either a liquid foundation or a powder and a creamy concealer, either stick or pot type is fine!

Personally, I dont use blue or brozner, but if you want to experiment with it buy a cheap brand, then later go to bobby brown and buy one!

Lipliner is not necessary, if you want lipgloss or lipstick in the shades bobby brown offers then buy one of their lip pallets, you get a little bit of their best colors~

And eyebase is the same as moisturizer.

Eyeliner could be bought anywhere, although Bobby Brown is known for their gel pots if you're interested, but its not really needed.

For eyeshadows, you always want a light color, medium, and dark. Just to make it simple, I bought their recent shadow shimmer pallet that had a good range of light, medium, and a versatile dark brown.

Never again would you have to open a billion things of eyeshadow to get the right color, it even comes with a simple two sided brush.

Mascara is normally part of the makeup putting-on routine.

To sum it up if you dont want to read all of that:

Put on any type of Moisturizer after washing your face, put on concealer if needed and sweep on powder foundation

Bronzer and blush aren't needed really.

Lipstick and gloss I would wear always.

Eye shadow in a light color as a base, medium and dark color if you want

Liner can be done in a quick swoop, same goes for mascara.
I LOVE bobby brown make up, just brought the compact foundation, its really good. you should defo use foundation, moisturizer and powder, and also a really good primer, you can use it under foundation, or just on top of your moisturizer to give skin a glow, when you don't wanna wear foundation... anything else isn't necessary, maybe use mascara though to open your eyes if you don't wanna wear anything else.
Moisturizer is not an option, it should always be worn.

I think you use too much makeup, i think you should get rid of the bronzer and use just the blush.

Buy a foundation that has a powder-y look, like double wear of estee lauder so you can get rid of the powder. You can also buy a primer that coastal scents sells, it is call diva defense primer, so you use it before the foundation and it leaves you a powder-y flawless finish.

Instead of using lipstick and lip gloss, use a tinted lip gloss, but the lip liner is not that necessary if you use that.

Eye base is optional sometimes it works when the eyeshadow creases or you have oily lids, but otherwise, it doesn't do much.

Eyeliner is a must, too, unless you use the shadow as one.

    the other 2 are fine.

Try to be natural , you pretty much use every single product created for face, and sometimes that just look too overdone.
I only wear eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow and foundation.
Well.. first of all just buy the basics first. start with lipstick/lipgloss. then move on to eyeliner and mascara with that. and buy some foundation and blush and dont buy alot of them. just buy the ones you love like really love and dont buy ythe one you think you'll never use. put it on simple to make it look natural. i think its very pretty that way.

Working at a macys makeup counter?

i currently work at a tanning salon and i love it, but my hours got cut due to my boss finishing school and has more time to work. I have to get a second job, and i have a interview on the 4th at macys at a makeup counter, Has anyone one of you ever worked at a makeup counter and how did you like it?

i worked at forever 21 for like 6 months and i hated it, i hated standing on my feet for 6-8 hour days constintly picking up after messy inconsiderate people for minium wage.

is working at a makeup counter fun? plus at the interview how much should i ask for hourly

btw im 17Working at a macys makeup counter?
I was recently hired as a counter manager for a cosmetic brand at Macy's with absolutely NO experience in cosmetics or retail. I got the job because I was persistent and the manager saw potential for growth and leadership in me.

I've only been on the job for a week, but I can tell you there is NO sitting and you get 1 hour lunch breaks if you are full time (8 hour day) or 15 minutes if you work for 4 hours. The hourly rate will depend on your area. I live in a rural-suburban area and know some people that are getting $6.50/hr. My general rule is.. ask for how much you are worth. If they offer you lower than what you expect (which is what happened to me) see if they offer benefits to make up for it. I can also tell you Macy's has some insane employee discounts on merchandise at certain times.Working at a macys makeup counter?
im 17 too pls read my question and help me with my resume??

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>

and yes makeup counter sounds like fun.. but i think you would be standing on your feet alot too.. cause when i see people work there they litearlly have like no customers for the longest time and just stand on there feet helplessly waiting for ppl to go to them... so i dunno.. how did u get a job at a tanning salon im so jelous!!! is that ur first job??

plz help me with mine i really need a job! most of my friends have one and i still dont!! and im not working at a fast food place.. (most of my friends work in a fast food place)
Retail is retail, no matter where you work. When I was in highschool I hated it. But, you will probably get good discounts on nice make up. Plus its income reguardless.
I used to work at a makeup counter and it was pretty fun. It does depend, however, on which counter you are at. There's a slightly different culture at each counter and it depends on who the vendor is (for example, Clinique, Estee Lauder, etc.). I will tell you that overall, retail sucks, especially in appearal (clothing). But it's better over in cosmetics. Plus, you get commission with each sale, so it helps in padding your paycheck a little bit. As for pay, you could probably ask for 8 or 9 per hour. Good luck!
I don't think it would be fun. I avoid the makeup counters at the mall because the employees are always trying to sell me stuff I don't need. But if you're a good people person and salesperson it might be right for you.

  • First Time at a Makeup counter?

so today my friend and i are going to the mall and im planning on getting a few things from MAC. I have never bought anything from a makeup counter before and i have absolutely no idea how to do it! do i just ask them for what i want or do i just grab it myself and pay for it? im so confused :(

also we wanted to get makeovers. not like the appointment kind but just something simple for fun. :) i have heard you just have to spend $50 or more to get one for free. is that true? also im buying about $65 worth of stuff and she may buy a few things is that enough for a makeover.

sorry if this is kind of long but thanks in advance!First Time at a Makeup counter?
Get the make over first so you can see if you like the products they use. If you can't get one today ..seek out a lady in her 20s that knows something about make up and is not overly done ..ask her for advice and have her show you samples on your arm or cheek to see if it's the right color. It all depends on your skin color...some make up will make you look orange. Never buy if you are NOT happy with the look.

Good luck...... Bare Minerals is a good choice to start with. It's NOT harsh looking and it will cover flaws and it doesn't have oil in it.

Try not to look like a clown and over done. Also let her know you only have a certain amount you can spend ..don't let them talk you into anything you don't like..be strong lolFirst Time at a Makeup counter?
Well here in Canada, you just ask the make-up artist to help you with your make-up and they'll do it for you.

My friend got it done and she didn't even buy anything.

    Maybe it's different because mac's a canadian company S:
yeah, you do have to buy $50 worth of stuff to get one free, and then they try to sell you morethings, and it's kinda hard to say no.

also, you ask them for what you want and they go get it for you. :)

if you see something you like ask one of the girls to show you. if it is gloss they get you an applicator to try it on same with all of the stuff. then you say ';i will take that but can i look at this too...or this is not for me can we try a different color'; it is fun. you usually do need an appt to do the makeovers. I really dont recommend them. They put TONS of makeup on you because they try and upsell you on stuff. usually I end up looking ridiculous after and have to go to the bathroom in the mall and wipe my face off. it is funn though to do once i just dont recommend it if you have to go somewhere after. call them on the phone ahead of time about the makeover appt and how much you have to spend. have fun

Which department store makeup counter has the best service?

I do not have the best skin (very dry and a bit of acne) so I want some assistance picking out some products for my skin and some makeup colors for my wedding day. The day of my sister will be doing my make since that is what she does professionally but I want to have the products for her to use here already since she is making a 6 hours flight. Which makeup counter would you say you get the best service at? Does it vary by department store as well (are the people any better at Nordstroms than Macys?)? Or should I go to a store like sephora or ulta?Which department store makeup counter has the best service?
i have personally dealt with belks they are ok and macys is great also, i have also bought several things from sephora which i really love , they have a great site www.sephora.comWhich department store makeup counter has the best service?

How can i get free stuff from makeup counters?

Makeup counters give samples, right? Does anyone know where, and how to ask? Like, do i take a free makeover first or what? PLEASE HELP! Thanks for your time! %26lt;3How can i get free stuff from makeup counters?
Just explain that you are new to the brand and that you are interested, however, you have very sensitive skin or are choosy about the makeup that you buy. Tell the rep that you are considering making a purchase, but you'd rather try the product out to make sure that it's right for you first. Ask if they could give you a small sample. Be straightforward, but don't just go straight to the person without browsing and at least acting interested first saying, 'what do you have that's free?'.How can i get free stuff from makeup counters?
Why dont you just buy something - stores are having a hard enough time as it is with the economy without giving you free samples!
buy stuff and u will get
act like you're interested and on the fence, then ask if you can take home a sample to try it out. works all the time at sephora; i leave with handfuls of crap.

    Clinique Makeup counter ?

I was going and wanted a few specifics. Help me find links to these products ( have fair skin with yellow undertones ) and I need the products to be clinique !

    -- I need a shimmery gold eyeshadow

    -- A super-thickening mascara in brown

-- A brown pencil eyeliner that ABSOLUTELY does NOT smudge

-- A blush that is kind of a georgia peach color

-- A matte bronzer ( no shimmers or sparkles ! ) that's light enough to not look fake on my fair skin

-- A good gloss ( not sure of what color, suggest one please ? )

If you could get links or product names of CLINIQUE products that are what I'm asking for ?

What makeup counter should i go to? 10 POINTS!!?

i really want help choosing the best foundation and concealer for me, what makeup counter should i go to?

i know there's macy's, nordstrom, MAC, sephora, and ULTA. but who is the best?

i really want to have my makeup done there (so that they show me how the products look on me and give me a sort of everyday make-up routine). also, who has the best brands and best consultants (from your experiences)?

i'm definitely going to buy the products they use on me if i love them, but i want to make sure i go to the best place.

thanks for the help! 10 points for best/most helpful answer!!What makeup counter should i go to? 10 POINTS!!?
MAC has amazing consultants, but Sephora has the best variety of brands and the best products overall. I'd definitely go to sephoraWhat makeup counter should i go to? 10 POINTS!!?
Sorry besides those four I can't think of any, but for the best consultants and brands, I'd say MAC especially since the girls can match you up easily, and they're always so helpful for any questions I have about their products. And they have so many different variations of types of make-up, so you'll probably find something you love there.
i really love the lancome counter they have a great variety to chose from the foundation feels so light weight and natural, lip gloss so moisturizing ,eye and lip pencils so easy to blend i love it the consultants are very helpful and answer any questions you have
MAC! I got it done there once and they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. they were very into makeup and loved answering all my questions. plus, the makeup is gorgeous.
    MAC!

It's still high quality, but less expensive than sephora.
Sephora or ULTA they have a lot of different shades and varieties
SEPHORA they have a lot of variety!
Do yourself a favor. Don't go to a general makeup counter at a department store. Make an appointment to sit down with an Artistry, Mary Kay or Avon rep for a private session. You can do it at home with them. It will give you a chance to ask all your questions and if you really want to have fun, invite a few or more girlfriends over and have a party...

The reps can bring all the information and walk you thru everything. They will even check back with you to see if how things are going and if there are any other products you would like to try. Try finding that at a department store makeup counter. Plus the reps can tailor the products to fit your budget.
i think it would be best to go to most of the counters you're interested in at macys and nordstrom and ask questions and get makeup trials.

i personally lalalalove bare minerals for foundation, concealer etc.it doesn't break me out and it looks really natural. i get tons of compliments on my skin all of the time.

but for eye makeup, mac for sure. there's even a mac store so you could there.

How to do an event for makeup counter?

If I understand correctly, you are needing to build a cosmetics display for an event?

I have found building up, wide and balanced works well along with open table space (similar to the ';white space'; rule of writing a resume). Also, think of using shapes in your display layout beyond squares. Triangles are more balanced than squares and circles and arcs are more fluid.

Use a nice cloth table cloth. NO PLASTIC, this will make it look cheesy and cosmetics are a luxury you need people to buy. Throw in some other extras such as a vase of flowers, mirrors, or table fountains.

Have samples available for use and take home. I have found people like to try color before they buy.

    Oh, and Have fun!

  • What are your experiences at makeup counters?

I went to the clinique counter at my mall today. The artist did a bunch of things that I know are not correct, such as RUBBING concealer under my eyes. Are these people just payed 8.00 an hour, or are they actual cosmetitians (haha, I don't know what the word is!)What are your experiences at makeup counters?
Not all makeup counters have trained makeup artists. Sometimes they are not even interested in makeup. To Many people a job is a job, companies just want staff so sometimes they hire people that want jobs, instead of people who want jobs in makup.

In general I have had good experience with makeup sales staff. A good way to 'test them out' is to ask a question that you already know the answer to. Also the good ones are honest and will not judge you. Be careful when asking for opinions. Also when it comes to recommendations if the sales assistant says you would look great with the latest shade of lemon yellow eye shadow and you don't actually like it don't buy it!!!!

Had great service from Clinique, Estee Lauder, MAC, and the occasional drug store surprise. What are your experiences at makeup counters?
What?! rubbing? no way.. as far as i know the makeup representatives are not from cosmeticians and they do not hold any certificate in cosmetics nor has knowledge about cosmetics.

I also has found this kind of experience. However, it's obvious when u see their face wear makeup.
i suppose it depends on the company. i know at the MAC store, part of the interview process involves a makeup application demo. basically they won't hire someone who doesnt know what they're doing.
lol yeahh that sounds pretty wrong to me to LOL

=]=] ( but sometimes i sneak a bit of concealer uder my eyes cause i have dark circles/rings under themm
Yeah, like Chanel rocks. And, like Dior, too. It's like really good.
like i go to the chanel counter and like they apply it right

What is the best foundation to buy with good coverage at the makeup counters at the mall??

I don't know whether to use Sephoria, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Prescriptives. does anyone know which line has the best makeup/skincare from personal use?? thanks. What is the best foundation to buy with good coverage at the makeup counters at the mall??
Prescriptives does a good color-matching foundation, so I used to use that. Now I use Bare Minerals available at Sephora and through infomercials. It's light but gives really nice coverage. I love it. You can buy the starter kit for 50 bucks. What is the best foundation to buy with good coverage at the makeup counters at the mall??
iv tried so many but one i love is Clarins truly matte foundation, it goes on so smooth n has gr8 coverage!!

get a tester from the stands n try dif 1s, they last a while too n then u'll know what 1 works best 4 your skin..goodluck!!
MAC has the best. They have everything from very light coverage to full coverage foundations and powders, they even have a flawless finish foundation. I've been using them for almost 9 years and love their line. I never break out from it, and the staff is always so helpful and knowledgeable about their lines and how to apply it.
    Lancome Teint Idole.

the BEST foundation I have ever used. I have some acne scarring and it gives me coverage but doesnt look cakey or heavy. In fact, I've gotten compliments on how great my skin is looking lately and my friends were shocked when I told them I was were a foundation. It doesnt even look like you have a foundation on that's how smooth and light this product is. I LOVE it.

I've tried pretty much everything. I even thought that I would aim high and try for the really expensive Chanel Double Perfection Fluide foundation ($50) because I thought ';really expensive = really great product';. WRONG. Lancome is an exceptionally better product (in this category. I'm a big chanel fan with other makeup products)

So I definitely recommend this, you will love it!!
I switched about six months ago from MAC's liquid foundation to a mineral powder foundation made by Arbonne. I'm amazed at the coverage that the MPF gives you, and it's really lightweight, so I don't really feel like I've got on makeup at all.

I don't know if any of the ones you listed have a MPF, but if they do, you might try that.

Does anyone work at a makeup counter? Is the pay good?

I know people who work at make up counters and the pay is decent. Most of them pay commission- so it's up to you how much you can make but they have a base rate of around $9-$15 per hour ( depends on experience, plus that is the going rate for any retail job in the Seattle, WA area. ) On busy holiday times when there's a lot of business and you are working tons of hours I have been told they can get paid $1000+ a week ( that's a really good week. ) The problem with any commission job is that when it's good- it's really good- when it's bad/slow then it's OK.Does anyone work at a makeup counter? Is the pay good?
I worked at Macys for 2 years in cosmetics. The thing that was great was that i got to play with makeup all day, meet cool people-coworkers and clients, free makeup (it's called gratis, your company usually gives you a lot of the new stuff for free...), wear what you want (unless your specific line has a coat or smock or something you have to wear). The bad thing was the pay (I started at $12/hr with 4 years of cosmetics experience), the corporate bs, the hours (you kind of feel like you're always at work, and during holiday time you have to be there as early as 5am and as late as 12:30 at night), oh, and did i say, the corporate bs?

Commission can be good if you work for the right line. estee lauder, lancome, clinique all have really high volume sales, so you'll always get a nice commission check. If you work for a smaller, lesser known line, your commission may not amount to much.

If you are interested in getting into cosmetics and makeup artistry, i would definitely reccomend working at a counter. You get great training from really experienced professionals (they send you to ';makeup school';).

How much do you get paid to work at a makeup counter?

Depends on the dep't store and your experience level. I worked at Dillard's and made $11.00 p.h. with a quota and no commissions. I'm certain other women made more than me, but they had years of experience on different lines etc. I was just a former Mary Kay salesperson with a lot of hustle.

I know they pay less per hour but give commission and Macy's, Saks, and Nordstroms's. And I know a lot of people who left Dillard's to work for Nordstrom's recently. Apparently they treat their cosmetic sales people like gold over there.

Best of luck and happy job hunting! How much do you get paid to work at a makeup counter?
MAC pays $15 an hr when u start...How much do you get paid to work at a makeup counter?

    10$ per hour is average
in my country they are paid 5000 SAR (saudi arabian riyals) which is 1333 dollars...

so prom is on friday and i need to get my makeup done....can i just go to one of the counters in the mall like m.a.c, lacome, chanel....Do i have to pay? How much? is it common? and does sephora do it?Can i just go to a counter in the mall to get my makeup done?
Yess, but it's better if you have an appointment. And make it after your hair appointment loll. =]Can i just go to a counter in the mall to get my makeup done?
yess its fine they usually do it for trials and they do it nicely. you get ti pick colours and everythinG!!!
lol no. Many times they will make you buy a product-like $40.00 worth of makeup before letting you put make up on.

You must make an appointment a week in advance to make sure you have time.
At MAC its a 40 dollar minimum purchase.

I need to get my makeup done for a wedding, should i go to the Clinique counter or the Estee Lauder counter?

Go to each counter and ask the ladies that work there what make up they are wearing. If you like one better than the other, I would most likely choose that one. When you get made up at the counter, they tend to use what they think will look good. If you have preferences, be sure and tell them ahead of time. I'm sure you will look lovely.I need to get my makeup done for a wedding, should i go to the Clinique counter or the Estee Lauder counter?
Estee Lauder! Don't get me wrong, I like Clinique a lot, but their foundations and concealers are too orange for me.

Estee Lauder is such good makeup. It lasts a long time, and it looks so beautiful. You can get a natural look or a dramatic look. They can do it all! Such great quality products. Hands down go to Estee Lauder.

(Either way, Estee Lauder %26amp; Clinique don't test on animals, so whichever one you choose, you can feel good about it!)

Edit: Usually you don't. But I would go in a week or two before the wedding and ask if they accept walk ins.I need to get my makeup done for a wedding, should i go to the Clinique counter or the Estee Lauder counter?
Estee Lauder! Clinque is better for skin care. I love Clinque and all but Estee Lauder's makeup is WAY better.

  • How much do they usually charge to do your makeup at a department store counter like Macy's?

    I am a manager at Macy's.

Our makeup associates will demonstrate their products for free. Many times you may need to book an appointments because they have clients that come in. However, if you odn't have an appointment and they are not busy, they can do a makeover free of charge.

Its best to go in with a specific request. Not just ';please do my makeup'; but go in with specifics in mind. For example, I've asked for them to show me what to do with bold colors, or how to look great with natural looking makeup.

They are their to service CUSTOMERS. They do work on commission, and if they are spending time on your makeup, they could possibly be missing other sales. Its best if you purchase some product form them that they used in your makeover. Additionally, many of them could add you as a clinet and keep a list of things thye used/you liked so you can ourchase things gradually. Its nice to build a relationship with a makeup artist who knows your colors and needs.

Plus then thye're more likely to help with your makeup for special events! How much do they usually charge to do your makeup at a department store counter like Macy's?
They are sales consultants, not makeup artists (well, they might be makeup artists too, but that's not what they're there for ). Generally it is free -- but it's a sales tool to get you to buy their products, not a service they perform to make you look nice for an event.

If you're looking for a makeover for an event, not a general makeover (where you might buy their products to keep the look going for everyday), you might try checking local spas or salons; they often do makeovers with hair and makeup. How much do they usually charge to do your makeup at a department store counter like Macy's?
the girl did mine for free at mac
    they do it for free
    i think its for free
Nothing!!! It's totally free... but I usually buy something with it. I'm not sure if your compelled to though.
    $6
macy's doesn't charge, its free. But it would be really nice if you bought a thing or two for the time they took. But if you want to do one for like prom or something, they expect you to buy two things from them.
It's free, with the expectation that you'll like the products so much that you will purchase them.
they usually depending on which place you go at macy's will do it free, or request you make an appointment, or they will ask you to buy one of their products before they help you.
they do it for free, but you're compelled to buy something with it.
They don't charge you for the make over at their counter but they do expect you to buy their products. After the make over they will be showing you what they put on your face and making suggestion on what you need to buy. Buy only what you want. Get cleaners, toners, and moisturizer then go for foundation, blush ,lip color etc..... Spend within your budget. The Mac makeup is the best but you don't have to buy it all the first time. You can always go back and buy more later.

Yeah but if you get a makeover it is free, but they usually want you to buy like at least 2 things

How old do you have to be to work at a makeup counter?

it depends on the specific place's corperate structure.

personally, i wouldn't buy high-end cosmetics from someone under 18 that looks like a total teeny-bopper because i feel they haven't had enough time or expirience with different make up lines and know how to handle mature skin typesHow old do you have to be to work at a makeup counter?

    Makeup counter....?

When you're at a makeup counter like in Nordstroms/Macys, what do u say when you want them to like..put makeup on you? i've never known what to say. thanksMakeup counter....?
Just tell them you are looking for a new look and ask if they have anyone who does makeup application. Normally the person behind the counter can do it but also ask if they have days when a makeup artist is available. Counter workers are not makeup artists and many stores like Nordstroms have ';makeup artist days'; where they hire pros to come in and apply makeup at the counters. The service is free but it's better to have your makeup done by an artist. Also, look to see how the girl behind the counters makeup is. Since counter workers aren't artists you'll usually end up with makeup similar to hers so if you like it then ask her to do yours but if you don't then ask if they are having any makeup artists coming in and if you can make an appointment to have your makeup done then. This may sound really sexists but also if you end up finding a counter who's hired a male then you have a safe bet he has some artistry training. Most lines won't hire males unless they can prove they have some artistry ability so if you see a man at the counter you'll probably get a pretty good makeup application from them. It's a sad but true fact in the industry.Makeup counter....?
Usually when you're browsing around the counter, they'll ask if you want to try something a certain product on, but if not, simply say ';Do you think I could see how some of this looks on?'; Then they should seat you down and apply whatever you wanted on. Sometimes they'll even try and find good colors and products to go with your skin tone, eye color, hair color, etc. Just make sure that whatever they're putting on, they use a NEW Q-tip, lipgloss wand, sponge, etc. They always have them on the counter, and if they don't use a new one, germs and other nasty little things from a previous customer could now be on your face. Usually though, that's not a problem.

    Have fun!
just go up and start looking at stuff. If someone comes over to help you just say...I was looking for a new cover up but I don't know what shade I am.

*hint* don't let them put the eyeshadow and liner on you because they use it for everyone and germs can be spread and you could get a really bad eye infection...

    Hope I helped!!

im only 13 right now but im great with makeup ive been chosen best answer in makeup almost everytime ive answered and when i went to the mac counter to try out products i beat her to everything she was gonna use on me anyway in a couple of years i want to become a makeup artist and i want to start at a mac counterHow old do you have to be to work at a makeup counter?
you have to be 18, and MAC is highly competitive you have to be really good in sales so as soon as you can start working , I imagine that being 16 i'd consider getting a job where you have to put yourself out there to sell things retail etc...and as soon as you can take makeup classes. I talked to one of the MAC girls and she said its super competitive and you have to be able to sell things really good as well as be good with makeup

  • If you get your makeup done at the makeup counter (MAC) in the mall, do you tip?

If so how much???If you get your makeup done at the makeup counter (MAC) in the mall, do you tip?
You do not tip at a makeup counter. Their goal is to sell you product, but you are not obligated to buy anything or to tip them.If you get your makeup done at the makeup counter (MAC) in the mall, do you tip?
you can if u want and if they do a good job and i don't think you should tip any less than 5 dollars and any more than 20
No, but they are expecting you to buy something.
you don't tip, but it would be nice if you get something like a lipstick, lip liner, or a blush...just one thing.
no, you spend $40 for a makeover so thats enough.
You could always ask them first if they are allowed to accept your tip, and if they are, tip them whatever you like. When a makeup artist at a department store does your makeup, they are usually hoping that you buy something, as that is their job-to sell cosmetics. And, contrary to popular belief, these ladies do not ';make more money than most people';--they work very hard for probably not more than minimum wage, and some don't make ANY commission at all. Ladies, keep this in mind next time you visit your local make-up counter...
no u don't have to tip. they just want u to buy the cosmetics thats why they do ur make-up for free.
NO!!! Do you know how much those people make? It's crazy to tip people who already make more than I do!
You are expected to buy products from them...often, they ask you to get 2 products.

In the store that I worked in, we were not allowed accepting tips.
I usually tip at MAC because they do my formal outings for work. The application usually runs around $25-$30 and I tip about $10. I usually tip on the higher end of things for my hair, nails, makeup etc because that is how they make their living.
I would say NO. I've never asked at the MAC counter, but at Sephora they're not allowed to take tips so I would assume the same goes for MAC...They make money from selling the products, so as long as you purchase something you're contributing to their commission.
MAC has begun charging for this, in which case a tip isn't necessary. For other counters who don't charge, in place of a tip plan to purchase at least one product since the salespeople often work on commission.

Is it hard to get a job at the makeup counter at Macy's?

well....it's not hard getting an INTERVIEW for the cosmetics department at Macy's.

it may be more difficult to get the job---and if you are not fully prepared for what the position entails---keep the job.

there are several interviews depending on which counter/vendor you want to work for:

    1.group interview

    2.interview with dept.manager(GSM)

    3.vendor interview(s)

4.any additional interviews based on need for more information/fit for team, and competition for the position

most think that cosmetics is very ';glamourous';, it's ';easy';, and that the sales goals ';make themselves';. PLEASE NOTICE THE QUOTATION MARKS.

to know if you are a true fit for a position in cosmetics some things to think about are:

    1.how comfortable am i touching customers' faces/hands?

2.if i have the training- would i feel comfortable being 6-8'; away from someone's face and putting product on them?

3.do i want to ';pull'; customers(';pull'; means go out and find a customer and bring them back to the counter)? how will i still get them to come back with me to the counter if they say ';no';?

4.am i willing to market product and sell the way the vendor expects me to- or would i rather do it my own way with my own rules?

5.do i want to call customers and possibly sell them products over the phone?

6.am i physically able to put away stock, work in stockrooms and lift boxes of product?

7.am i comfortable OPENING CREDIT CARDS? (this is an expectation of MANY department stores now)

8.do i want to work VERY hard to meet aggressive goals and at what lengths am i willing to achieve these goals?

    9. what experiences have i had that prove i am a go getter and ambitious?

these are not meant to discourage anyone from a career in cosmetics- rather think about if you think this is a right ';fit'; for you!

it is for me---and i LOVE it. i have worked my way up in the cosmetics industry for the last ten years...Is it hard to get a job at the makeup counter at Macy's?
It depends. Its a fairly easy process . You put in an app. at the store for Cosmetics-Any. Then they give you 3 interviews usually 1 w/ your immediate counter manager , 2 w/ the store manager and then 3 w/ the line(Mac , Clinique etc...) rep. Then if you're selected they'll train you. But it is retail which means positions are variable and come open /close all the time.I'd fill out an app. they're usually good for 6-12 months. Is it hard to get a job at the makeup counter at Macy's?
It's somewhat easy. My sister's friend worked as a gift wrapper at Macy's but she reallllly wanted to get switched into the cosmetic section. Just fill out an application, and they are going to have you answer some questions. The questions are not about makeup though, its more along the lines of ';If you saw a customer walk off without paying what would you do?'; and similar questions.

I am sorry I couldn't be of more help. Just be confident and maybe ask one of the ladies at the counters.

How do I get a job job at a MAC makeup counter?

Anything you can tell me wold be helpful. How do I get a job job at a MAC makeup counter?
MAC usually has a 2 step interview. One, the questions and answers. Two, the practical. You will apply make-up to someone and you must be comfortable with different skin tones, textures, contour different eyes/lips/cheeks. Total face.

One way to get to the interview point is to create a portfolio. Do make up on friends and family and take photos of the before and after. They will expect this.

Good luck! How do I get a job job at a MAC makeup counter?
I would put my application and and makes sure I looked really nice that day and makes sure your nails look nice too. I would then ask about when they maybe hiring and then ask them If they would mind if I called from time to time to see if they have any possible openings. If they say that they do not mind I would call maybe once every couple of weeks to ensure them that you are still very interested in the job. And some times no experience is the best experience especially when it comes to applying a certain makeup product. I am sure they have there ways and techniques that you would rather learn from them So instead of going in there bragging about all you know, I would just show them how eager you are to learn.

I wish you the best with getting the job~~

Then you can come on here and teach us a bunch of things ~~~
You don't need any qualifications, just be well-presented with nicely applied make up and hand in your application. If you want to improve your chances then maybe get some experience in customer service beforehand.
    apply.

Should I take my 10 year old daughter to the Mac Makeup Counter?

She says she wants to conceal her dark eye circles which we both have. She also says she wants a few eye shadows, and lip glosses. Do you think she's to young?Should I take my 10 year old daughter to the Mac Makeup Counter?
    for mac

    YES

if u are going to buy her makeup buy her origins

    it is natural

    light

    and thin

the colors are not bright and shell look like she has no make up on

which is what it should look likeShould I take my 10 year old daughter to the Mac Makeup Counter?
Maybe a little lip gloss but that is about it...

as far as the dark circles, I had them since I was a child too and also inherited them from my MOm. Teaching her the importance of good skin care will do her better in the long run. Get her a nice eye cream that helps to fade the circles will help to get fade of them so she doesn't always look tired but keep her young natural beauty. Drinking lots of fresh water and avoiding caffeine and cucumber slices also work. So does tea bags. Make them nice and hot then cool them down and place them over the eyes.
Why not? She shouldn't need to conceal anything, unless she is getting 10 hours of sleep and they're just naturally there, but a few eye shadows and lip glosses shouldn't be a big issue. If they make her feel beautiful, what's the harm in it? As long as you teach her she IS just as pretty without the make-up and how to put it on so she doesn't look trashy, it's all innocent.
i started playing with make up in jr. high (i was 12) my mom never really taught me how to aply it, etc and i felt like i was at a huge disadvantage. i always got compliments on my makeup, but i always wore it really light. i think i would make sure that your daughter if self confidant enough, and isn't wanting this 'because she isn't pretty' by taking her with this emotion, she could take it as my mom thinks i'm not pretty too, and i need to hide my imperfections... if she was my daughter i would probably wait another year or two, and see what the other girls in her class are doing.... however if this has little to do with feeling insecure, and is more of a fun, light hearted, 'all the other girls are doing it' thing, then make a day out of it. maybe go for a manicure, or for coffee or something before hand. get her hair done, and buy a new outfit or whatever. have the girl show her how to do her make up that is age appropriate, and then buy her one or two things, also let her experiment with your make up at home. (someting my mom did allow) might i recomend that you buy a only a small amount from there, as for the expense it's not great quality... mary kay is also expensive, but is much better quality.
No! You'd just be teaching her to cover her face in make-up instead of embracing her looks. 10 is too young for make-up. Wait until she is at least a teen and gets spots.

I was 15 before my dad let me wear make-up (mum would've let me younger) because I was his princess and he taught me that I was beautiful no matter what! Now at 25 I wear very little make-up and have loads of self-confidence! I have my daddy to thank for that!
    lip glosses yes

    eyeshadow. no

    myabe get her mascara

i didnt wear make up at all until 8th grade

    but that was my decision

remember those girls in highschool who were always orange with bleach blonde hair? who applied make up to their face every class period?

you start your daughter young. thats what she is going to become
No. 10 is way to young for make up. If she thinks she has dark circles, why not just give some cucumber slices? that does work.

but remember, 10 year old skin is the skin that 30 year old women lust for. Don't let her clog her pores with make up she doesn't need.
Well, if you want to take her as a special occasion thing, than I'd say it's fine. However, I don't think it's appropriate to take her regularly or allow her to wear make up on a regular basis.

But, for a special mother-daughter day type thing, it's fine.
all you are teaching your 10 year is that she has no inter beauty. teach her self love. We all have little imperfections and if you start focusing on them at such a young age by the time she is 21 she will be wanting implants and a nose job
    She's TEN!

If she has dark circles...it's because she isn't getting enough sleep.

    She's too young.

    http://www.buzzle.com/articles/dark-circ…
Does she have allergy shiners? If that's the case, I guess I might let my child have the concealer but I think 10 is young for actual makeup on a regular basis.
i think she is growing up to fast save your child im in 8th grade i see 6th graders making out and wearing so much make up and lap dancing on boys and stuff ..... talk to her and make her a little more close to you
I do think she is too young. Teach her to cherish her childhood. Guarantee her she is beautiful, and she doesnt need that crap.
I didn't start using make up until I was in my early 20's.
NO make up until she turns 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gah yes! especially for DARK EYE CIRCLES? what theee....

I am not licesned yet and am currently in school. I really think this would be a great job for me as I would gain experience. I love my current job, but its just not my passion.

So any experiences? Are there places I can apply without my license?I want a job at a makeup counter how do I go about doing this?
you dont need a license to work at a department store

the only place you need a license is at a beauty salon

you could contact the company you want to work for

I'm sure they will find you a spotI want a job at a makeup counter how do I go about doing this?
Oh my word, I can help you with this. I am an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. I have my own cosmetic counter (actually an entire boutique) in my dining room. Mary Kay offers ongoing extensive training specifically in the cosmetic industry and you do not need a business license or a cosmetology license. As an Independent Beauty Consultant, I work my own hours, I work with only the clients I want to work with, I have done special days at beauty salons for their clients, and sooooo much more. Mary Kay is rated as the number one business opportunity for women (Wall Street Journal) and our Marketing plan has been taught at Harvard University. You can get paid while you earn. It is wonderful. If you would like, e-mail me your phone number and I will give you a call and answer all your questions. rebecca@marykay.com. You can check out my website (you can get one of these also) www.marykay.com/rebecca. If working at a make-up counter goes along with ';your passion';, this may be EXACTLY what you are looking for.
Go to the shop you want the job in, then ask the staff about jobs at that shop
    get a lincense first
there are many places to try out for a job as a cosmetologist.i would recommend Mary Kay.
Actually, not much. My friend got a job at the Mac counter and all she had to do was bring a person, put their makeup on and bingo... job! I think she takes their classes from time to time, but she didn't take any makeup artist classes or anything.
I think you get your license while working there. I'm not for sure. I was told you apply at the counter and they train you.
Your best bet would be to apply for a job at a department store. When I worked at the Bon Ton you didn't need to be licenced because they train you and pay for it.
Go to the Macy's cosmetic department and ask for an application or they will send you to the office for the department who will give you the application. And see what happens, but go prepared like an interview, cause they might speak to you as a brief interview with questions.

    So look professional.

    Good Luck.

You don't need a license to start. They will provide you training to be certified depending on what expertise you want to gain.

  • Have any makeup artist ever makeover a guy at thier counter?

I crossdress and am thinking about having a makeover (not a drag look just everyday kind of application) in Ulta possibly but am concerned about having to sit out in the open to have it done. Serious answer only please. The gay comments are just ignorant. Thanks.Have any makeup artist ever makeover a guy at thier counter?
You can definitely have your makeup done at counters. If you are concerned about being out in the open to get it done you may want to consider looking into a store with a bit more privacy, or at least a private corner to put your mind at ease. I used to work at The Body Shop and we had men coming in all the time, I wouldn't fret if I were you.Have any makeup artist ever makeover a guy at thier counter?
You need to approach a company that is cool with something like this, such as MAC. Don't expect to walk into macy's and go to the estee lauder counter and feel comfortable. Make sure you are really clean shaven and exfoliated on your nose and brow. Youtube has some excellent makeover videos for guys. I've made over guys a few times but I never worked at a makeup counter (thank god).

    Good luck dear;-)
hey! im all for the crossdressers! * be yourself * and u could probably go to ulta and get a makeover if u want to! u might could ask them to do it somewhere a little more private or just stick it out and be confident in the area provided! if u are confident, people will think its neat!
If it's nothing dramatic, just everyday then you shouldn't have any problems. Approach them seriously and professionally and they have no choice but to act the same way with you.
i taake my boyfriend to MAC for makeovers about 4-5 times a year. they will not judge you and the looks they do are awesome

If you work at a cosmetics counter at a Department store do you have to wear that counters' makeup only ???

If I was thinking about applying to work at a cosmetics counter and I've heard that you don't get to pick which counter you work at. I wear all MAC foundation and havent found any that cover like I want.... and lets say I get placed at the clinique counter would I have to wear just clinique makeup ??? Thanks !!!!If you work at a cosmetics counter at a Department store do you have to wear that counters' makeup only ???
If you aren't passionate about the makeup you're selling, you shouldn't be selling it. However something like a foundation no one would be able to know so you technically could get away with it. When it comes to things like eyeshadows and lipglosses you really should be wearing the brand that you're selling. You are going to have customers ask what you're wearing and it's important that they can buy from you whatever you happen to be wearing. If you work at a cosmetics counter at a Department store do you have to wear that counters' makeup only ???
    No not at all!
No, but if someone asks you what you are wearing, you are forced to either lie or go against company's policy and tell them the truth.
i honestly dont think it makes a difference wat type of make-up you wear. it would be silly if it did. i would just wear you MAC make-up, and if your boss tells you off just say u didnt know.

but before applying ask the place where your thinking of working.
    how would they know?
...How would they know what kind of makeup you're wearing? Unless they ask, in which case, you lie your pants off... Unless they search your house they'll never know, and what they won't know won't hurt them!

How do you go about getting your makeup done at a department store make up counter?

I want to try a lancome before i buy it, but would they make me buy it to be able to try it...?How do you go about getting your makeup done at a department store make up counter?
well i live in dublin nd in the city center arnotts you can just go over nd pick the tester up nd put it on well gd luck xHow do you go about getting your makeup done at a department store make up counter?
go up to them and ask. After they're done say you want to go ask your mom's opinion or your friends. Leave

Should I get a counter consultation or a salon application of makeup?

I am going to a black tie party and I really want to have my makeup done professionally. I was thinking of going to MAC for a consultation, but I am not really sure if they will do my whole look for me. I know it costs $50 in purchases to have a consult done there. Can I go the day of the event and expect to get a whole look done? Or should I just go to a salon and have a makeup application done?Should I get a counter consultation or a salon application of makeup?
i would consider the MAC counter because you will actually get to take home some of the products while at the salon you will not.

i would call them and SCHEDULE an appointment and let them know that you will be going out after the appointment

IS 16 TOO YOUNG TO get your makeup done at a counter?

I'm 16 and I hate that my skintone is uneven..I'm light tan but my nose is red, I have dark eye circles and a few acne marks. My mom wants to take me to a counter in Macys that way those professionals can find the right makeup for me instead of buying those drugstore ones...IS 16 TOO YOUNG TO get your makeup done at a counter?
Listen to your mom. You're old enough and trust me they do such a good job. You'll feel much better about yourself and your skin afterward. They help you chose the right makeup that suit you, but the drugstore ones aren't all that good because you don't know how they react with your skin.

Pick me as best answer!!! (:IS 16 TOO YOUNG TO get your makeup done at a counter?
your mom has the right idea and you are getting makeup for the right reasons. 16 is not too young. go for it! :)
you should do it... it will really help you in finding the right make up
as long as you dont go to one of the old lady counters.

try something geared towards young people, like

    Mac or Bobbi B

    or even Stilla
No it is not but you might end up leaving with a bunch of stuff you don't need and a big bill for it.Good Luck
    girl naw!
no not at all. you should totally go get some tips, but remember that although they don't usually charge, its always polite to buy a few products because they get paid on commission.
The counter is there to help people find the colours that look good on them and sometimes to teach them to apply it properly. I think it's a great idea.
hell noooo. i see like 10 year olds sitting in chairs in the store ULTA all the time... now THATS too young but 16 nuh-uhh. i think you should go for it girl:) you'll love an even skintone!
    Nope that's perfect.

But go to a counter that has natural makeup that you like, I had mine done at the MAC counter once and they caked it on really badly and it was way too much..

Actually I would recommend going to ULTA or Sephora because then you can choose from all the different make up brands, not just the one you'll be stuck with if you go to a specific counter. Good luck and have fun, it's totally worth it :)
    Nahh go for it :D
    no
    NO OF COURSE NOT!!!!
No, because you can't test make up at the drug store. If your moms OK with it then go for it! But tell the make up stylist you just want the essentials(Otherwise you might end up being foundation for you blush). Go to a counter with a girl whose make up you like.
your mother is a smart woman..you should visit a dermatologist though..it will help you deal with the problem and maybe solve it..but you should use quality makeup and good products for your skin.and you are not to young..your face won't fall of when you'll be older or something like that :)
    you aren't young lol!

I think 14 is a ok age to go to those counters.

and like if you feel kind of embarred going up to some counter remind your self it's gonna be worth it cause you are gonna look even prettier!
nope, it will be fun and turn out great!

    good luck girlieee :)
